Played my GK Cup match here on 8/7 with Matt, David, and Ron. Conditions were pretty good overall considering how beat up San Diego has been these last few weeks. This course is never in terrible shape, and it was nice to see lots of green out there. The review:

Tee boxes: Good shape overall. A bit chewed up but we teed off around 2pm so I am sure they were in better shape in the morning. Only had one hole where I found the ground to be uneven but the space between the markers was ample enough to find a place to tee it up.

Fairways: Nice green color and offered good roll and drives. Had two bad lies today but not the course’s fault; divots are commonplace here. Partners did a great job of filling them today.

Rough: The times I was in it, there were some thick sticky areas of grass. The Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) dominate this course but errant tee shots are certainly penalized even before going into the ESA.

Bunkers: Amazingly was only in one and it was a fairway bunker. That one was dry, crusty, and ample in size. The green-side ones looked to be about the same condition-wise (to a degree), which is a shame considering you actually want the fluffy stuff around the greens.

Greens: Good shape except for the pock marks of cleats, footprints, and unrepaired divots. Again, the playing partners did an excellent job cleaning up our playing surface. Roll was true otherwise and speed was medium-fast with certain putts breaking towards the ocean on the front.

ETC: New carts had nice GPS though touchscreen wasn’t very sensitive to finger pressure. Staff as always here, was very helpful and kind. I love the layout of this course and the front and back nines are so different. A few funky holes and the par 3’s here are a little meh, but for the price they offer So.Cal. residents, this is a must-play.
