Played in an SCGA outing. The cost to walk on and play is $320 which includes a fore-caddie for the foursome. The outing cost $160 without a fore-caddie. A big part of what the golfer is paying for is service. Valet parking, carrying bags from car to cart, locker rooms with showers, etc. I had not played the North Course so for the much reduced cost I thought I would give it a play. Rather than a shotgun the outing was set up with tee times ranging from 7am through 12:30. The tee times were 10 minutes apart and the round took just about 5 hours teeing off around 11:00am.
I found the layout to be enjoyable. It was reasonably wide off the tee but stray to far and your ball is in the bush. There are some forced carries from tee to fairway. The terrain is rolling to hilly but nothing extreme. The greens were in good condition rolling medium/fast and held shots. The greens had subtle slope/breaks that can be difficult to read. The fairways were very good. I did not have a bad lie all day. The rough was not too long but the ball did sit down a bit. The rough coverage was mostly good with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers (I was in a few) were mostly good. One green-side bunker was more like chunky dirt than sand. The tee boxes were fairly level and in good condition. The North Course does not have any holes right on the coast but it provides plenty of nice coastal views.
The course has nice facilities all the way around. The staff was welcoming and very friendly. For me it was worth paying $160 to play the course.
Pelican Hill Resort has two solid courses, good service, and nice amenities. Value for the price depends on the individual.
