Well I finally played here and I’m glad I did. It cost me a pretty penny and from a quality stand point it is probably worth it compared to other golf experiences.
The greens are large and in wonderful shape the fairways are again in wonderful shape. The tee boxes are some of the finest I have seen in California. And best of all the folks that work here are very, very pleasant. So now the reason I will never go back and why you should think twice before you commit to this adventure is it’s difficult to get around if you’re an older guy.
I don’t mean tough I mean it’s royal death march!!! First on the front nine at least half the holes are all cart path only. The tract meanders through the rolling hillside so for this old timer it’s plain difficult to locate your ball and get to it. Next most of the tee boxes are up on pedestals that require you to climb stair cases and some of the areas set aside from the cart path to the greens are uneven. I had a difficult time navigating. Now if you’re young, in great shape then don’t worry, these are the frustrations of an older gent. You will understand when you get as old as I am. Sure you will get a workout but you’re used to it. However, if you’re like us — older and a little broken down, maybe bad knees and or hips or you’re just old and out of shape then you should know that you’re in for a little work-out. This isn’t mentioned in the brochure. They don’t tell you this up-front. You will just have to find out for yourself or part of the reason you read reviews here on Greenskeeper is to get the scoop from regular Joes like you and me.
Now you might say, “Oh that fat sissy is just whining,” remember I said it was a GREAT course and I am one of the few that have no real problem with the rack rate. I just believe that golf should be fun and for some of you a trip here won’t be. In fact I would be willing to bet this course gets more emergency calls compared to any in the state. That aside, if you disagree please let me know. I really am glad I had the opportunity to visit and play Trump National I just wish I was a little more spry with a spring in my step when I did.
