The course was in nice shape with the exception of some of the white tee boxes. Tee boxes were really chewed up on a few holes and not real level in certain areas. Had to re-tee a couple times when taking a stance due to a depression.
Fairways were very nice and lush, the few I was in… 🙂 Good lies and fair. Rough was long enough to be penal and think about what shot/club selection.
Green were smooth, a little slow and really took break as the ball slowed. Collars and fringe were well maintained. Some really tricky breaks to be found. People need to fix ball marks, but, that seems to be an epidemic.
Bunkers were very good with soft sand. High shots occasionally got plugged.
Staff was great and the day was enjoyable.

As far as the other conditions, excellent as expected for December. I knew going into the round the greens could be on slow side. Typically all golf courses that overseed come December experience this. However the fairways were lush as was the rough. We played the blue tees, which makes Desert Willow Firecliff a pretty long course since in my experience its seem like most landing areas in the fairways are sloped up-hill. I never get much roll out there. The tee boxes on the blue tees did look much better than the white. Level, lush and with little divot damage.
After the round we had to hustle over to our next GK Review Guru round and did not have time to grab a bite to eat on the patio. I missed that. The view is spectacular and the food is delicious. Next time for sure will stick around.
Customer service Monday was outstanding at every level.
Next I’d like to get out on the Mountain View Course, it sure looked nice driving in. Maybe in January!

i always enjoy this course, it is visually appealing with many bunkers littering the fairways reminding you to keep your drives in the middle, but still not overly challenging. the fairways were lush and full and the bunkers were full of new fluffy, and heavy sand which you had to really accelerate through to get out of. i made the mistake of saying ‘i haven’t been in a bunker all day’ on 16 and promptly hit 4 bunker shots on the last two holes. teeboxes were in rougher shape, we played from the whites and a few, like 12 if i recall, were in fairly poor shape with brown grass all around, a stark contrast to the rest of the course. tees were level though and there was always a good place to hit from. greens were soft and much slower than in my previous experience here, i had a very difficult time getting the ball to the hole. i much prefer faster greens. pop was 3:45.
the course is coming in nicely, it is in very good condition now and in a few weeks it should be in tip top shape. always a pleasure to play here and thoroughly enjoyed my round.

Nothing but positives about the course. Challenging but fair. Beautiful, the DW courses have put a little something extra into the landscaping, adding extra beauty to the desert layout.
Thinking back, I don’t know that I have ever played in PS in December/January during the time when the “winter grass” is at full strength. Seeing this much green on the courses is so nice, but it took some getting used to not having lightening fast greens. I do think their hole cutter is about 1/4″ smaller than regulation. That can be the only explanation to all the lip-outs in our group.
