I played in the second GK Review Guru group yesterday, teeing off around 1:20 with kevbig, MrKich and chevelle. Good times! Weather was mostly cloudy, bright overcast skies and a pretty good breeze blowing most all day. Curiously, it seemed to be a crosswind on nearly every hole; very rarely helping or hurting much. POP was ideal at 3:50. Really appreciated the course delivering pin sheets to us when we realized the pins weren’t set according to the customary 1-2-3-4 green segments.
Conditions are tip-top right now! The greens are smooth and medium-fast to fast. They are very accepting of short irons (I spun back a couple wedge shots) but longer clubs took a bounce or two before stopping. About medium firmness, which I think fits this layout well. The fairways were lush with great coverage, providing perfect lies all day. The rough was also very lush and well maintained. For the most part, balls sat up on top and it wasn’t too penal. Tee boxes were excellent. As others have mentioned, the bunkers are the lone weak spot right now. I was in two, and both felt like they could use some more sand or a deep raking. They did have a thin layer of soft sand on top, but just underneath the surface seemed too firm. I rated everything a 9 except the bunkers.
My appreciation for this course grows with each visit I make. Looking forward to getting out there again soon!

Played in GURU outing along with 7 fellow Guru members. My 4some consisted of putt4dough, rudedog, and weber2323. Goose Creek hosted a qualifier earlier in the day and the players were just finishing as we tee’d it up at 1:00. played the back tees and I stepped onto some tee boxes that I have not been on before at Goose. Course was in top notch conditions and the marshall was kind enough to run some pin sheets out to us as the pins were in tournament position. Tee boxes were in the usual great condition. Fairways are short and you must compress the ball to get the best results as always. Greens were running typical Goose fast and no bumps so putts rolled true, Mike, (Weber2323) burned too many cups yesterday, He should have had a fistful of birdies. I was only in one bunker and it had enough sand to get my ball back to the fairway. Rough was fairly thick but gave you opportunity to recover from your errant shot placements. Pace of play was fantastic as we never waited and played at 4 hours and watched the other Guru group finish up on 18 with the brutal back pin position tucked up next to the water. What a fantastic day. Thanks to Ross and all the great people at Goose Creek for having GK Guru event on such a perfect day. Missed JohnnyGK out here though. See you soon Johnny

played 5/16 with the GK Gurus Mark, Kevin, and Keith. POP 3:50. I had a great time with the group despite playing my worst round in over a year.
Just as noted by the earlier reviews, the course was in fantastic shape from tee to green. Although we played the blues, 5-6 of the tee boxes were set up at the tournament tees which could often be 50 yards behind the blues. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, and greens would all rate 8+/10 for me. The greens were quick and sometimes appeared to gain speed going uphill. They were a little over medium/fast and rolled very true. Biggest disappointment for me were the bunkers, of which I found a few: there were quite a few rocks and pebbles among the fairly thin sand.
This was my first time playing at Goose Creek and I loved it. I will definitely be back for another round before too long despite the hour+ drive.

Played Goose Creek on Tuesday May 16th with fellow GK Gurus Mark, Matthew, and Kevin. I met Mark once before and did not know Matthew and Kevin and they were absolutely great to play with. They all made me feel relaxed and I had allot of fun. Thank you!!! We were following a SCGA qualifier and we played from the blues. WOW was this course set up long…. All the blue boxes were as far back as possible and on several holes we used tee boxes I didn’t even know existed. There is not even a course rating on the score card from where we played from. I play this course allot as I live only 3 miles away and this was really interesting to see this course from this length and perspective. I would never have had the opportunity to play these tees without this Guru deal.
That being said, this was a clear example of someone (me) playing from the wrong tees as discussed many times here. LOL While I hit some good shots, I tripled both 17 and 18 to shoot 96, and I must say I was very happy with that score from these tees. I want to thank Mark, Matthew, and Kevin for a great time and since the POP was 3:50 I don’t feel I messed up their game much.
As for the course, I agree with Kevin’s review, great shape, tees, fairway, greens, and I also did find a few stones in the bunkers. The wind kicked up a little towards the last few holes and made it even longer which was even worse for me. LOL Service was great, got our balls and the carts were placed aside for us to use.
I am really glad I took off work for this. Thanks Johnny for setting this up.
