Thought the staff was very friendly. Our three-some was paired with a single.

Teed off on time and pace of play was good. Course was in great shape I thought. Played 5 rounds out there this trip and it was probably my 2nd favorite course out of the 5. Played 6500 yards from blues. Hit driver 7 times. 3 woods and hybrids were sufficient off some to keep it in play. I have played almost 20 courses in the area and this I consider was in top half of those I have played.

It’s an enjoyable course with lot of elevation change. If you’re looking for a true ‘desert’ course this is probably not it, but does have a few nice views of the mountains.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.43 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.43 GREAT

Played Starfire on the 18th of February at 3:10pm at $29 twilight rate. Showed up early in hopes of being allowed to go out as a single because I was paired with an unknown grouping of three people and luckily enough they let me start with a well known local at 2:50 instead. Awesome. The pro shop is near the bag drop just past the dining area so easy to find and all staffers were present and helpful.

The course itself looked in presentable shape for a few weeks away from Spring. The tee boxes were easy to find and always seemed ready to accept a tee. The fairways were near perfect, knowing some landing areas that were close to the green being divot filled I would attempt to lay-up or go for the green, THEY WERE BAD in some areas. The bunkers were overwatered in some areas because of recent rain but none of them were crusty. The rough was 1-3 inches high so rather consistent and green around fairways. Greens were rolling great even though there seemed to be pitchmarks every one step, definitely something I’d keep an eye on. All in all the shape wasn’t anything noticeable and didn’t keep me from playing good golf.

This Arnold Palmer designed course has 3 nines, King/Hawk/Squire. We were scheduled to play King to the Hawk for completion of 18. King was a great combination of gettable par 5s and risky par 3s with no par 4 bearing incredible difficulty or requirements on the long irons. A rather tame and attackable 9 holes designed by a go-getter golfer.

Sun City West Golf Arizona On our way to the back 9, there were 3 FOURSOMES waiting on the first hole. NOPE. I wish I could say we stuck it tough and played through but we couldn’t. I wish I could write a review for the rest of the course but I can’t. Ranger needs to facilitate better timing between groups or this course needs to be avoided until the summer, which is when the local said it could be enjoyed to its full potential. Wouldn’t return to play until then.

We played the Catalina Course at the Omni Tucson National on Saturday 02/10/18 for The Bridge the Gap Charity Golf Tourney. What a great time we had. I’m not sure that I’ve played on a finer maintained course! The course itself was quite challenging, with some rolling and various width fairways, water on several holes, elevation changes and undulating greens. It plays well to it’s slope. For the conditions, the fairways were literally like carpet! The greens were well manicured. The only negative I could take away from the whole experience was that the bunkers were too wet, but since we were playing a best ball tourney, we never actually got to hit out of it!??.

We had such fun that we will be planning a return trip soon! It’s not a cheap course, but I feel it is definitely worth your attention if you find yourself in Tucson!!

Played a few weeks ago, this is a newer layout located on the Pascua Yaqui reservation west of Tucson. The course was designed by Notah Begay, not sure if he has done other courses. As such, there is no development around the course and it is set in treeless desert terrain.
The course is really not walkable, it is spread out in quite a few areas due to the terrain. Conditions were impeccable and it doesn’t appear the course gets a lot of play. It was a very good value, the fee included range balls, bottled water, GPS in carts.
The practice areas are excellent as well. One thing to keep in mind playing for the first time is that there is a fair amount of water that is not visible/obvious from some tees and approach shots. The GPS has a flyover feature that you should consult on holes that do have water. There is a lot of bunkering around the green complexes; framing tee shots. Bunkers were excellent.
Very enjoyable round, pace of play good, conditions excellent, service excellent, try this one out.

Played on Pro Bowl Sunday around 2:40 pm for $39 plus tax (best deal for tee times is through their course website/booking service, call in and refer to the price online). Got paired up on a rather humming Sunday…didn’t have to necessarily wait on every hole but didn’t whiz through the course either. Cart girl saw my group about 2 times per nine so she was definitely customer service orientated.

The courses we played we White to Gold. Probably my favorite nine on this course is the white because of the great design and set up on the holes. This course is just so unique and as you can tell by how many reviews I’ve done on Ocotillo, I always come back.

The course conditions were consistent throughout the course. Because of the rain, some of the bunkers weren’t healthy or fully drained and played as course under repair. But the course played soft and true, greens looked healthy after a rough summer/fall (rough meaning a lot of work done to greens and soaking the overseed in October). The tee boxes and fairways were near identical, couldn’t find a bad lie. The rough was penile at times but with the generous fairways here, scoring isn’t too tough like others in the valley.

Worth the tee fee.
