Finally got out to play here again after about 9 months. My 6 year old and i played with some extended family who live in the desert. We played February 16, 2020 at a bit after 2:00 p.m. Phenomenal 80 degree day out!
Anyways, about the course – the course was absolutely wonderful (as always). Son and i showed up an hour early for our afternoon start. Hit some balls into the net, chipped some, and putted some. Short game practice area is great, but i just wish they had a real range. That said, the net is pretty decent to warm up with (compared to other nets i have hit into).
Went to hole one and the starter took off right as we were heading up to the first tee. We just teed off and had a great time.
Tee boxes were very nice. Even, though slightly shaggy fir my tastes.
Fairways were absolutely perfect. Perfect green and very few divots (all filled).
Rough was cut pretty short but very decent condition. Found desert a few times i went outside of the rough. Even the desert was playable though.
Sand was great. Fluffy, but not too fluffy. Nice white sand, too.
Greens were smooth. Different grass than I normally play, so were a bit slower than i am used to. Once I adjusted to speed, i was nothing but happy with the greens.
Clubhouse is wonderful, as always. Staff is amazing, both inside the clubhouse and out.
All in all, wonderful day and just wish i could have finished more than 14 holes (stupid short winter days). Son was beyond happy and wants to play again. Family from indio wants to play again too. Great course, and will be back for sure.

Golf Course Conditions 8.38 GREAT
Only problem playing Eagle Falls is having to go back to the normal junked up public course for the next round…Course is in great shape, fairways are about as good as hitting off a mat. Greens are challenging in that there are actually undulations in many of them and the grass is so good it is a shame to walk on them with golf shoes. Yes real sand bunkers around the greens, good idea to hit a few practice bunker shots on the great practice area before your round.
We paid $85 on a Monday morning and it is worth every penny….for us golfers from the inland empire we have nothing like this even our best Oak Valley or Oak Quarry are dismal seconds to this track.

Golf Playing Conditions 9.00 IMMACULATE
Played on 12/26. This was my first time playing Eagle Falls after years of wanting to get out here. With all the great reviews I have read and the 9.03 rating, the course had a lot to live up to and it did.
Check in was fast and easy. Not much here as far as club house or snack bar or bar, but it’s not why I wanted to come here anyways. They paired us with a very nice couple from Canada and we teed off right on our 11:16 tee time. POP 4 hrs 15 min. We did not use the range, but it looked very nice.
The Review
Tee boxes – In very nice lush shape. All were level and had normal divot damage.
Fairways – Wow, were they ever perfect. No brown could be found. Ball always sat up nice. Fairways undulate, but not to severely. Some of the best I have ever played on.
Rough – Long, thick and sticky (Golf version of a Montrose song). The rough was always on hills and if you though you might get a lucky bounce out of it, forget it, not happening. The rough was dark green everywhere and would grab your club and ball. Framed the fairways nicely.
Bunkers – Was only in one and had nice sand, could use a little bit more, but i am not complaining. Saw one green side bunker with lots of new sand just waiting for a crew to spread it out. The bunkers are deep and
Greens – A little slow for my taste, but in great shape. they were medium speed but downhill putts and chips could get away from you. If you only read your putts from behind the ball, you will have trouble here. You need to look at them from a side angle also or it’s going to be a long 3 putt day.
Final Thoughts
Overall I loved the course and can’t wait to get back out, maybe for a springtime round. If the wind kicks up it is going to be a very tough course. There are some forced carries, like 150 yards over water, but with the breeze we had in our face that day it made the drive a little more nerve racking.

Rams Hill Golf Club Borrego Springs California Golf Course Rating

Finally got out to play this highly regarded and suggested course. WOW! Easily in my personal top 3 public course I have ever played. from a course condition, it probably is in the top 2.
We have seen the Golfweek note saying Rams Hill is the 3rd best public course in California behind only Pebble and Spyglass, well we have played both of those within the last year, and course condition-wise, it is FAR superior to Pebble. Put things into perspective, there are so many reviews already, I can only say as a first timer I was blown away.
Tee to green there is simply nothing out of place. This course is a MUST play. Suck it up and make the drive. For me from Lake Forest it took us 2 hours and 35 mins. to get there and it is a really nice drive to just chill out and enjoy. I would rate this in the 9.8 to 9.9 area….only reason not to give a 10 was “lack of GPS” and “no mayo on the club sandwich.”
Hey Golf Digest – this course absolutely deserves to be in the Top 100 US public courses list for 2017 and TOP course list in California.

Worth the Green Fee 2016 for Southern California – Rams Hill Golf Club

Okay call me crazy, I have heard all the great things said about Rams Hill so I thought I would decide for myself. I made the 3 hour drive with 2 others yesterday in pouring rain to play here.
The weather reported that the rain would be light and would stop at 9:45 am so I made a 10:20 tee time. We arrived at 9:45 and the rain stopped at 10:10.
This place is golf heaven in the desert! Conditions were near perfect other than the winds that picked up on the back nine. Greens were 10-11 speed, tee boxes immaculate, fairways perfect, sand was great, and the course is a real gem. We bought the $150 twosome special and they charged our 3rd only $80 which was great. The round came with $15 credit vouchers for food so we stayed for lunch before driving home. It was a long day but was a real joy for us all.
Thanks to all the GK’ers for the spot on reviews. We will be back soon!

Played the Blues (6671/72.8/133) in 3 hours, 20 minutes. Pace of Play (POP) was great because it was around 100 and clear with little breeze. I like this course more with each visit. Do not score well here, but still one of my favorites.
This course is in excellent shape bordering on immaculate. The layout is certainty different visually from other courses with huge, wide fairways surrounded by crushed granite. Almost every hole has a forced carry over desert-scape, but the fairways are generous in size. The Bermuda tee boxes are large and very well maintained. Even the par 3’s rarely needed divot attention. The Bermuda fairways were lush & well maintained. Few unfixed divots. The only grass that qualifies as traditional rough here are the strips around the sand traps, because if you are around a green, it is mowed as fairway. Outside the fairway is the crushed granite and the desert-scape. There are a tremendous amount of sand traps on this course. I counted 14 on 1 hole alone. Very well maintained with high quality sand. The green side bunkers are deep and large and the fairway traps often have larger lips than most people are used to playing from. The Bermuda greens putted medium fast and were smooth. Firm and tough to hold a shot where it landed.
The customer service from all encountered was great. Drink cart came by probably a 1/2 dozen times. Nice grass range with complimentary balls, nice sand/chipping and practice putting areas that closely resembled the on course conditions. Nice restaurant onsite with outdoor patio dining. Definitely recommended.

1 of 3 courses played and this one turned out to be my favorite. Although it was cart path only, it only took us a little over 4 hours to play as you could get close to your ball by driving through the desert area.
Course is just a beautiful green and the bunkers had nice fluffy sand. Greens were a little on the slow side but they all rolled the same.
