World Golf Hall of Fame Inductee and Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, Pete Dye, is the design force behind the three distinctive layouts found at this unique destination just 25 minutes northwest of the world famous Las Vegas Strip. Renowned for his course architecture, as well as comedic commentary about the game and the courses he has designed, Pete Dye proved how “One-of-a-Kind can now come in Threes” in his concept to realization of Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain and WOLF. Never missing a chance to infuse his legendary challenge of the field with his signature elements such as railroad tie bunkers and sweeping slope changes, he ensured each course within this Vegas Trio presents the golfer a different experience from its siblings.
Snow Mountain Course
Storms in at 7,164 total yards … Best Par 3s on the property. The original course (and a true golfer’s favorite) has wide rye grass fairways, seven holes with water, traditional Dye railroad-tie bunkers, dog-leg finished holes, and a progressive layout. Do you like risk? Or, do you go for reward? Then you’ll love the challenge waiting for you in finishing holes 16, 17, 18.

Just played out here today. Course looks amazing. Perfectly cut. Rough around 2 inches and ball tends to sit down in it and not on top. Fairways perfect. Greens smooth but slow. Looked like 2 different types of grass on them. Front 9 very moist. Slipped 2 different times on my drive. Never had that happen one before. Very enjoyable round, finished in under 3 hours and even waited on a couple of holes. Highly recommend Paiute of in Vegas. Starter was great also and came around and checked on every one to make sure they were on pace even though the course want crowded in the afternoon. Really appreciated the beverage cart coming around 2x during the round and not retiring early even though there were not many people on the course.

We played Snow Mountain on Saturday, 5/21/16, at 9:33 am. From the bag drop to the 18th green this was a first class golf experience. We were in Las Vegas for the weekend and I’ve played several of the best courses public courses in LV (aside from Shadow Creek and Cascata) including TPC Las Vegas, Bears Best, and Pauite Wolf but I think Snow Mountain takes the cake.
We were running about 25 minutes behind and we called at 8:40 to let them know and they were happy to switch our tee time to 10 am. This gave us plenty of time to hit the driving range and knock in a few putts! Initially, we were stunned at how pure the fairways looked from the pro shop (See pictures) and they were just as great as they appeared. The driving range was fantastic and short game/putting area was just as good. They have several ranges and we warmed up on the Wolf range (not sure why).
Course conditions were excellent. The tees, fairways, and rough were all pristine. The greens were great, but not immaculate. I would say medium/fast but nothing overly quick. Personally, I prefer greens to roll about 11-12 but given the crazy winds this weekend I think they slowed them up a bit. Still excellent, though, and putts held their line.
The course is visually stunning. It seems that every single hole has incredible views of the mountains. I preferred this layout to Wolf, I dont know why. I find the island green a bit gimicky (on Wolf) but let me tell you, the best par 3 at Pauite is hole 16 on Snow Mountain. It is such a challenging and picturesque hole. To our group this may have been the signature tee shot.
Pauite Resort is a special place. 52 Pete Dye holes that are untouched by any residential/commercial development. It is truly the way golf was meant to be played. We paid $123 and felt like it was money well spent considering it is absolutely peak time in Vegas. It took us about 25-30 minutes to get there from Mandalay Bay and it was of course worth the drive. Lastly, I recommend an EARLY tee time to beat the afternoon winds. We will be back!
