Played both courses at Morongo on 4/17/17 – this review covers both courses.
Still one of my favorite layouts in Southern California, but conditions are a bit worse than I’ve seen it in a while. I am not trying to be judgmental, it’s not bad by any means. It’s just a few pet peeves.
To get the minor negatives out of the way, both courses are busy. There is evidence of heavy play (although not crowded today). It is apparent on many tee boxes by lots of divots, and on most greens with an abundance of unrepaired ball marks. Greens are still smooth and moderately quick. Sand traps have good amounts of sand, but it is very clumpy sand in spots. Some traps have quite a few rocks.
Overall though, facility is top notch, and staff is nice and helpful. The courses are both generous in size, but have enough bite to keep you challenged. Always a treat to make it out here.
