A great day for 36 @ Royal Links with Nickesquire and MrKich. Beautiful weather after a short 15 minute frost delay. This is a really fun “replica” layout that was simultaneously tough but scoreable. If you are in good position and avoid the 100+ bunkers, you could really do well. Find yourself in a fairway pot bunker, and you’ll struggle to make bogey.

Greens were in good shape. They ran smoother in the morning round but faster as the afternoon wore on. A few pin positions were pretty dodgy (1 & 18 come to mind immediately), but overall it was set up pretty fairly. With the links layout, green complexes were often times fairly large with numerous bunkers.

Fairways were in good condition and provided consistently good lies throughout the day. Definitely firm and fast, but very very playable. You really had to think about where you wanted the ball to end up with all the extra roll and the fairway bunkers looming.

Rough and native grass was definitely penal. The dormant yellow grass was visually stunning and your ball could very easily sit down and make subsequent shots difficult. Further off the fairways the native grass was long and penal.

Tees were generally in pretty good shape. Some divot damage, but I can’t remember any uneven boxes.

Bunkers were in good links shape, perhaps playing a little thinner than I would have expected. However, there was not any bunkers that I could remember that were lacking for sand. Miraculously, I didn’t find a bunker until the 18th hole during our first round. That was not the case during the second 18…

POP for both rounds was around 4:15. Customer Service was great from the starters and on-course staff who kept us moving on the first 18 and then let us out quickly for the second round, ensuring that we were able to finish 36 with limited daylight.

This is a really fun course. Perhaps not my first choice when in Vegas (Paiute) but not too far below. Looking forward to coming back!
