First thank you everyone that came out to be a part of the GK Cup 12 Final and those that participated this year! Also want to thank Eagle Glen Golf Club for hosting our GK Cup Final. I always felt it would make for a fun championship due to its challenging layout, awesome closing holes and excellent clubhouse which includes a restaurant overlooking the property. Worked out great.

I was in the last the group, the finals group, teeing off at 11:00am. They were running a little behind and we teed up closer to 11:15am. Pace of play was slow as they had a full tee sheet Sunday morning. But wait, it was Ryder Cup Sunday, oh yeah, it was over when everyone woke up, so let’s go golfing!

I thought the golf course was in very good condition. End of September can be a challenging time to find a well-conditioned golf course in Southern California due to many in maintenance, prepping for maintenance or dried out from the summer heat. So given Eagle Glen aerated their greens in the beginning of September, I was confident they would be healed and I was right. With exception to the very first hole, as I had the same feelings as Itslikeimsayin’s review, the remainder of the greens were rolling moderately fast, mostly smooth and holding shots. The rest of the golf course played mostly firm, was light green, had occasional light brown/thin turf, yet overall provided a good surface to play from. I was only in a few bunkers and they were well groomed with quality sand.

After the round we got together in the restaurant to celebrate HmtGolfGuy’s GK Cup victory. I could not help seeing the patty melt Itslikeimsayin was about to dive into (there I go again referencing Mark’s review, feel like such a copy-cat! – lol) so I ordered it, super good tasty. Seemed they only had one, maybe two staff working the bar/restaurant so service was slow however professional. I’ve ate here before and always enjoy the food. If it was not so hot Sunday I would have liked to be out on the balcony looking over the course, its good dining experience.

Thank you again to everyone that came out!

btw – was also a very special day for me, please see my Pebble Beach forum post 🙂

Made the trek down to Eagle Glen for the GK CUP final. I had three agenda’s for making this trip.

Begin Lobbying for GK Cup 13 Final to be held in Northern California (hopefully bribing JohnnyGK with a round at Pebble Beach helped)!!!

Enforce dress code violations and award style points as the official GK fashion police (sorry Johnny but Perry got the nod with the matching shirt, shoe laces and hat)

And most importantly enjoy a bit of golf with some great, no scratch that, fantastic bunch of GK’ers.

This is my first time playing Eagle Glen and I must say it’s a super fun layout. Lot’s of elevation changes and like Nickesquire said, the front nine is mainly target golf with several holes demanding less than driver off the tee.

Condition wise the course was decent all around. Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible either. The first few greens were bumpy but then they smoothed out. Greens were soft and very receptive to approach shots. I never had an issue with a lie in the fairway but a couple of the tee boxes were trashed.

I avoided the bunkers all day so I’ll let Roarksown1 give a report on the sand traps.

I don’t know if I’ll ever be in the area again to play this course a second time but if given the opportunity, I certainly won’t pass it up.

I was disappointed that I didn’t get to do a wardrobe change at the turn. Might just have to wait til’ Pebble to debut that outfit…..

Played in a GK Cup match with AndrewZ28 on Sunday, 4/15/18. His recent review is very informative and hits all the major points. (Click HERE to view our previous reviews.)Day started warm and sunny, but clouds and wind rolled in just after noon and the afternoon was cooler and blustery. First tee was slammed and we started 25 minutes late, then overall pace was 4:40. We didn’t feel pushed by the group behind, but endemic poor shots resulted in not catching the group ahead.

Greens were generally good with some scattered thin areas, but mostly receptive. All greens had scattered old and newer marks. Downhill putts toward the east, away from the hills, could be terrifyingly fast. Fairways were thin and tight and very firm, and more often than not a solid drive would not be rewarded with a good lie. Rough along fairways was short, dry and pretty benign; around the greens it could be a little bushier. Tees were OK, but most par-3s didn’t have divot mix containers. I was in one bunker – greenside #10 had only a thin sand layer over a packed base.

A rumored marshal was never seen. The divot mix refill rack at the 10th green was empty, as it has been every time I play here. All holes had lots of unfilled divots in fairways and rough. Cart girl came around a few times. The golf shop had noticeably less merchandise than on my last visit. A new trailer snack bar has been placed on the 2nd/11th tees, providing convenience but also increasing noise on those nearby tees.

I enjoy the layout at EG and conditions here are generally good. Today I seemed to find every slopey lie and uneven stance, but that was mostly due to poor ball-striking. Still recommended.
