Played Eagle Glen on July 8.

Golf Playing Conditions 6.06 GOOD
Golf Playing Conditions 6.06 GOOD

Greens: fast and smooth.

Fairways: holes from recent punching still showing and overall were very firm.  Firm to the point that on several holes drive hit into center of a sloping fairway could run off that fairway into lateral hazard area.

Tees: very inconsistent with roughly half of them in very marginal condition.

Bunkers: fairway bunkers very firm and green-side bunkers had some sand in them which is rare for courses in IE these day.

Pace of play was 4.5 hours. A bit of strangeness in getting round started as starter was putting outgoing groups to the 10th tee with explanation of a tournament being underway.

There was plenty of wind which helped cool things down on the course even though the temperature was in the low 90’s at 3PM.

Out with fellow GK Gurus Wednesday 2/26 at Eagle Glen. I was in pants from a meeting prior and sure wished I was in shorts like the rest of the guys. Was hard to believe it was February. We teed off around 11:00am and finished in 4:30 hours. I was in the group consisting or TubeDude, rgm2525 and allan_grant.

Golf Playing Conditions 6.36 GOOD

We played the Black/Blue Combo tees and I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing some tee boxes never played as I normally play the Blue Tees only.

Golf course was in very good shape considering it was February. I knew going in the fairways would be dormant and firm. I liked that they sprayed them with a very light green tint to create extra definition between the rough and fairways. They played very firm yet you needed to be careful with short pitch shots off them to pick them perfect otherwise the turf seemed to grab the club just enough to result in a fat shot. Bump and run is your best option.

Greens were the best conditioned aspect of the golf course running moderately fast and smooth. They, like the rest of the golf course were very firm so you need to play shots factoring in a release.

Love those putting surfaces as they are large and challenging enough without being unfair. Tee boxes as mentioned were mostly lush and firm and could use some leveling improvements on most. Green-side bunkers were in good shape, a little thin and firm which I enjoy. It’s important to note that despite the warm days it’s the cold nights in those hills that keep the Bermuda turf dormant. I would not expect the fairways to be naturally green until sometime in late April or early May.

Check out the photos I just posted. My favorite part of Eagle Glen is the layout especially the par 3’s and par 5’s. All the par 3’s feature a forced carry and the par 5’s are risk/reward. The 18th hole is one of the best finishing holes in Southern California IMO. The views are fantastic throughout the golf course with many doglegs in different directions. I feel like it’s a layout that can appeal to just about any golfer. The only hole I don’t like is #2.

Eagle Glen has hosted our GK Cup Final and many GK Cup Matches. Certainly a favorite in the area that I looking forward to playing again and again. Recommended.

I Love this course. The routing on the front 9 is exceptional working up into the hills that create the canyon below. Elevation changes galore, shots over ravines, center-line bunkers, and dog legs in both directions (though more right then left (thank goodness!!!)) really make for a creative and fun course.

The greens are GREAT! With the exception that there are a LOT of ball marks. Come on people, you earned it with a green hit from high enough and far enough away to leave a pitch mark. Now, show off and fix your ball mark… and the one next to it just to be kind. But fast and lots of curves to make them very challenging.

The fairways aren’t great. The summer has taken it’s toll and there are more bare spots than I would like to see, but I think they’ll get it fixed.

The tee boxes are a mess right now. They are letting the grass grow out and watering it like crazy. We had to step through some puddles to find an OK area to tee the ball up.

Overall — GREAT track! Looking forward to getting out again in a month or so when the weather has cooled and the repairs have taken hold.

Great time out at Eagle Glen Golf Club with fellow GK’ers Thursday. Teed up early morning, 6:10am start (finished in under 4 hours), was June gloom most of the day but cleared up for the last few holes.

I love the layout and get excited to play it in Spring/Summer especially when the fairways turn green. They have a type of Bermuda turf in the fairways that craves warm weather to flourish.

It’s been an oddly cold Spring/Early Summer so it took much longer than normal for the fairways to pop green. I know they have been doing extra work with the fairways over the last few years such as aerating them and giving them more water.

From reading reviews there is an improvement. They are green now and they will be improving as the Summer goes on. However at this time the fairways are mostly firm and thin. Eagle Glen Golf Club does have very good greens (firm, mostly smooth, medium speed) and good all other conditions, combined with an excellent clubhouse, service and food. It’s a great golf experience I highly recommend. If you play Monday – Wednesday check out the rocking GK Coupon deal posted.

I’m going to post some updated photos next week.

Enjoyed the opportunity to play with Johnny, Dconnally and Andrew1. Great bunch of guys to play with, all good sticks and fine company. Most impressed by how well Johnny bombed the ball off the tee.

I can say without reservation that the course was I the best condition I have ever seen it. The fairways were simply excellent, some of the nicest I’ve played on recently. A couple of the tee boxes had the markers set on a slope, but otherwise they were in good shape. Just the overall attention and improvement to the course and facilities are most impressive. Staff was friendly and very accommodating.

Always enjoy playing Glen Ivy. I find the holes to be interesting without being penal. The “flow” of the course is very appealing and while not walkable under any circumstance, this is a course I could play all the time, despite my preference to walk. Fun morning spent on a very nice course, in good condition with great company

A year ago in June I played Glen Ivy Golf Club for the first time. One year later was my second round and the place has got even better. The new owner has been there for over 2 years now and I highly recommend you go check out the place. Besides the golf course being in great shape, the new driving range is fantastic as well as clubhouse/restaurant renovations. They even added a huge modern banquet room to host weddings, events and big golf tournaments.

Teed it up with GK’ers weber, dconnally and Andrew1 at 6:40am. Played in under 4 hours. Fun time!

The Review

Playing Conditions 8.05 GREAT
Playing Conditions 8.05 GREAT

Greens in excellent shape, smooth, holding shots, medium/fast and with a beautiful green consistent color. You could throw darts at those pins all day. And the way they were set up yesterday you needed to. They had the front and back pins on the edges guarded by bunkers or on some challenging tiers.

Fairways, beautiful, lush, groomed, providing decent roll out, just a pleasure to play.

Rough, mostly lush, not too long but dense around the greens. Ball always sat down a little, especially greenside making all pitch shots challenging. Also if you came up short on your approach shot to the green no way the ball was going to release on.

Bunkers, a little damp, a little firm but overall in good shape.

Tee Boxes, in good shape however there is not a lot a tee grounds for the four sets and the white or blue tees by far get played the most. So those tees had some divot damage and some needed to be leveled better. The back tees looked fantastic (might play those next time).

Morning tee time at Eagle Glen. Check in and first tee were organized and smooth. Tee boxes had good coverage. Fairways were a little thin and the ball would really run out. Rough had good coverage. Traps had good sand and were well maintained. Greens were in excellent shape, they held quality shots and had very few unfixed divots. Greens were smooth and fast, had three three putt greens. Lots of subtle breaks and undulations in the green complexes.

Wind was about 15 mph and was enough to make club selection a little tricky. POP was a little over four hours. Good Seniors rates.
