Golf Course Review Bear Creek Golf Complex THE CUB Chandler Arizona

Played on Fri, 3-6-20. I chose this course just for a super inexpensive walking round after the long drive to AZ. I ended up not walking after all, though, as temps were very warm and there was no shade on the course. There are two courses here- the regulation length Bear and the par 59 Cub. I was really surprised at how busy the place was. I was greeted immediately by the cart attendants and check in was fast and very friendly. The pro shop was tiny but there is a very large dining room and patio overlooking the courses. I got my noisy gas powered cart and headed to the range which was large, all grass and completely filled. There is a good sized putting green near the first tee.

I was paired with a local who was very helpful. There are not cart paths throughout the course and the signage was spare enough that I would have had a real challenge finding my way around had I played by myself. The course was more fun than I initially thought it would be. There are lots of large hills and dips in the fairways. Several times I couldn’t see where my ball ended up. A few times I was happily surprised to see that I was on the green after the ball had apparently taken a good route over the slopes.

The conditions were a mix of really good and not so much. Some fairways were completely green and lush, others were thin and somewhat brown. There were only a couple of bunkers on the course but plenty of dirt and sand off the fairways. Tee boxes were large and in good shape. The greens were smooth, surprisingly quick, and had very few marks. There is water on only the 18th but it was a fun finishing hole.

I don’t know that I would play here again, but it definitely suited my purpose this trip.
