Played on Sunday 4/26/20. It was beautiful day and temp in 70’s. Usual ocean breeze was blowing in from the west.

Course was in great shape and was busy but flowing well. They only allow walking but Buenaventura is fairly flat so wasn’t a problem. Yet it did wear my senior body out that doesn’t play that often.

There was no cart person we saw. There are no flags in holes but they sequence the flag position front-middle-back repeating so you just have to keep track of that. If I was very good at getting approach shots close to a flag like pros it would have bothered me more not having the flags in. They have cups upside down so ball doesn’t go deep in cup.

You have to pay with credit card and can also book round online.

Everyone in our group enjoyed the course overall.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.21 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.21 GREAT

I played here yesterday. It was a Monday holiday and I was surprised to see the parking lot nearly empty when we arrived at 7:30 a.m. for our 8:03 tee time. Unfortunately, that dream did not last as it was fairly busy both ahead of us and behind. We did finish in about 4 hours, so it wasn’t terrible. I used a text message special they had to save $10 riding; however, it was $45 dollars to ride. Check the course website for specials as they do have a few.

Greens were really nice. Not many ball marks. They held shots, were medium fast, and rolled nicely without any bumpiness.

Fairways were mostly dormant Paspallum grass with various other grasses mixed in as well as the occasional weed. Not the good kind, either. There was the occasional tight lie in the fairways, and with the recent rain it made for challenging conditions. Way too easy to fat shots and remove a ton of sod if you are hitting down on the ball.

The rough was usually nice to hit from as there was more of a mix of grasses that really held your ball up like it was on a tee. Most areas were cut to about an inch and a half, except around some of the water hazards where it was shaved down.

Bunkers had lots of light colored sand and seemed nice to hit from.

Tees were level and in okay condition. I never had a problem with finding a level spot. We played the blues, which seem like the most popular tees on this course. There were a few divots, but mostly it was fine. The other tee boxes looked pristine.

No snack bar facility at this time due to a plumbing problem. We did see a small BBQ grill and ice chests when we finished for the day, but nothing before or during our round.

Overall, I like this course and I will return. I just don’t like their rates, so I will continue to try to find discounts online through their website or elsewhere.

Ricki for the last 18 holes and played with 3 nice older gentleman the first 9 holes. Lots of people out at Buena today–ventura is cooler, Olivas is punching and it was their all day twilight rate today at Buena. Great staff(Vicki) in the pro-shop. No range here to warm up just cages. Nice big putting green.

The greens were rolling fairly smooth, soft and I thought slow. They were in great shape holding mostly all shots like darts. The greens here are big and undulating and fun to putt on. They can get creative here with pin placements in tucked spots. Green rating 7/10.

The fairways at Buena are in great shape. Padded lush lies–hardly any problem areas. Super should be commended. Rating 8/10–closer to an 8.5.

Tees in very good shape–you could even say some were too lush. Mostly level. They have brand new black tees on 12, 13 and 15. Number 13 is now for sure the toughest hole on the back nine with the tee pushed back some 45 yds–great fun par 4 now into the breeze.

The rough was green, lush and in good shape. Rated 7.5/10

Was not in any bunkers but Buena like Olivas always has nice thicker sand raked beach type of bunkers.

Overall Buena fit the bill for a quick round. Course is in real good shape–take advantage of their Monday twilight rates but get an early tee time if you do–recommended.
