Great time out at Eagle Glen Golf Club with fellow GK’ers Thursday. Teed up early morning, 6:10am start (finished in under 4 hours), was June gloom most of the day but cleared up for the last few holes.

I love the layout and get excited to play it in Spring/Summer especially when the fairways turn green. They have a type of Bermuda turf in the fairways that craves warm weather to flourish.

It’s been an oddly cold Spring/Early Summer so it took much longer than normal for the fairways to pop green. I know they have been doing extra work with the fairways over the last few years such as aerating them and giving them more water.

From reading reviews there is an improvement. They are green now and they will be improving as the Summer goes on. However at this time the fairways are mostly firm and thin. Eagle Glen Golf Club does have very good greens (firm, mostly smooth, medium speed) and good all other conditions, combined with an excellent clubhouse, service and food. It’s a great golf experience I highly recommend. If you play Monday – Wednesday check out the rocking GK Coupon deal posted.

I’m going to post some updated photos next week.

Played with my usual threesome on Sunday the 23rd of June for a hot deal of $10 per player off GolfNow. Pulling up as I stated in my review of this course last year, you’re presented with a course that seems below average. However once you’re on the grounds, the club house (recently renovated last year or so), the bar and grille, the ample putting greens, private instruction area near the 10th hole and the medium sized practice tee, you realize that’s not the case. The service was great. We walked up and were offered to tee off whenever we were ready. So, we did.

The Review

The tee boxes were manicured well, with the mow patterns visible in the fairways and greens from the tee boxes. The boxes were all lush with no severe damage nor visible need of leveling. The fairways were firm but not rock hard and often presented your fairway finding drive sitting up in the grass. The rough was noticeably different in the way it was mowed height wise, but did not present any difficulty in finding the ball nor with your club selection to accurately hit the green. It was kinda just, different than the fairway. Not bad though. The greens were very pristine, no severe pitchmark damage and the roll on putts was fair and true. What I was most impressed with, was the definition of the mowing pattern on the fairways and greens. You usually don’t see that at a cheap, retirement community golf course.

Parting Thoughts

This course is fun, and worth the summer rates. I know, from what I’ve heard , that this course is impossible to get on when the snowbirds are in town and it’s always packed when the weather is below that certain temperature that I can’t quite figure out, probably 75. My preferred golfing temperature is 100 plus, so it’s always empty and a great day out here. It’s a good test for all your clubs, a chance to shoot a low score and fun to have a course to yourself during the summer. Worth the green fee for sure.

Played Monday morning (6/17) as a walk up single off the Woodbridge and Blackrock routing a little after 7:30am. I had checked their online site and saw that it was pretty open in the morning before 8:00. POP ended up being under 3 hours as I was by myself with nary a group in front that I caught.

The courses were undergoing their rye to Bermuda transition so a few patches in the fairway were thin, but otherwise coverage all around was excellent. Rough was thick making anything longer than a short iron a bit of a gamble coming from distance. Tee boxes were good and bunkers looked decent with dark red sand. Greens held but were definitely on the slow side, which I had trouble with.

Echoing what sixpez and rgm2525 said in earlier reviews, this is a hidden gem. It doesn’t get the pomp and circumstance that Entrada and Sand Hollow receive, but this place is a very good test requiring control of your golf ball. This routing changed between stream woodland to desert scrub, back to stream woodland then finishing up in among black lava fields. I can’t think of another course with that much variation in style. Absolutely recommended.

Teed it up with fellow GK’ers Ron, Steve and Jerry and as usual, had a good time. I always liked playing Eagle Glen as the layout is fun and challenging. It was cloudy and cool on this day which I thought took away from the beauty of this course. Near the end of our round the sun came out and you can see the course is really greening up. The last time I played here, late last summer, it was pretty browned out. Not the case today. Although not super lush, it is starting to look good.

Always love playing Bermuda fairways and these are in good shape. Not a lot of cushion under the ball but not hardpan either. Tee boxes were just so so. Decent coverage but not always level. There really wasn’t much rough to speak of and if you strayed away from the fairways near the cart path, you were in hard pan or dirt. Was only in one bunker and it was in very condition.

The greens rolled nicely but were pretty hard and on the slow side. As slow as I have ever seen them. Usually, they are much faster.

The setting for this course is spectacular. There are some beautiful views from the high elevations. Always fun and challenging, you can’t spray the driver or you will be in the unplayable weeds. And the restaurant is great as well. Got a huge breakfast for $8. Recommend and looking forward to the next time out here.

Had a 9 hole playing lesson this morning with a student.

This golf course is in great shape tee to green. Fairways full, lush and green. Rated 8/10.

Greens rolling smooth, holding irons with spin. Rated 8/10. Tee boxes are a 9/10 level, super lush and look like PGA tour tees. Greenside rough is a 9/10. Rough just outside the fairways is in decent shape. Threw some balls in the bunkers which were raked and firmer.

Overcast morning. Great staff, nice big range with separate putting and chipping green. I would encourage all golfers to give Rustic a go–you won’t be disappointed.

Greens, fairways, green-side rough and tees in fabulous shape.

Played late morning on a picture perfect Southern California day. As Matt mentioned course is in fantastic shape. Maderas is always a great track when in the San Diego area. From the moment you arrive you are greeted by friendly and helpful staff. Yes, they want tips but so do waitresses at high end restaurants. Don’t want to tip? Eat/play at low end places and you’re good to go.

Names are in the cart ahead of time, which yes is a little thing but it adds a touch of class to the already outstanding service.

The Review

Range is included with green fees. The one small and possible only downside to the entire place is the range is mats only. Carts have full GPS with distances to the pin.

Course is has a few water hazards and waterfalls to go hand in hand with the numerous elevation changes. Add in some forced carries over the mountain side cliffs and you have one great layout.

Conditions are a solid 9 tee to green. Greens were rolling fast but soft enough to easily hold well struck approach shots. Greens have several undulations with some tough pin locations.
Fairways were very lush. They reminded me of the fairways at Quail Lodge.

Tee boxes were also in fantastic shape. I somehow managed to avoid the bunkers all day but others were in them and they had great sand.

A definite must play course.

Played here 6/30/19 with a 7:00am tee time. My friend and I were paired with another 2 some which eventually broke from us on hole 12. Pace of play was 4.5 hours. Saw the cart girl 3 times. Staff was extremely friendly. Dave in the pro-shop was very kind and welcoming.

Course Conditions:

Greens- 10/10 PERFECT! They started off slow but sped up tremendously as the sun dried them out. Everything rolled true and all ball marks looked to be fixed when walking up to green.

Fairways- 9/10 GREAT!- Trim, Green with perfect amount of roll after the flight. Hole #13 and #18 had some dead spots and Ground under repair roped of but still amazing fairways.

Rough- 7/10 GOOD! Definitely penalty worthy. A little too long to play out of. Felt like I was playing Bethpage black anytime I wasn’t in the fairway.

Sand- Believe it or not our entire foursome never went in a sand trap the entire course! I can’t review because of this. However the sand traps looked well manicured and didn’t look to have any growth in them.

Water- Water on holes 8 and 9 seemed to be clean and clear.
Tee Boxes- 10/10 PERFECT! If you come to this course the best part of it is the greens, fairways and tee boxes.

Beautiful course! We played from the Blue tees and I shot an even 100 playing PGA rules. Tough course! I am a 16 handicap. Love the challenge though and heads up #18 has a blind approach shot to the green.
