Rode the Golds (6158/69.5/125) in 4H, 15M mid day using Forelinx. Matched up with Steve and Chris, we played at a relaxed pace under partly cloudy, calm conditions in the 60’s.

Playing Conditions 7.09 GREAT
Playing Conditions 7.09 GREAT

The tees were lush/level and well maintained for divots.

The fairways were lush and well maintained.

The Bermuda rough is the only part of the course not over seeded and is VERY mediocre at this point. Thin with areas of hard-pan all the way to a few places that are dormant and fluffy is not a good place to go with lush fairways close-by.

The sand traps were nicely maintained with a decent amount of good quality sand.

The greens putted nice, firm and medium fast. They held irons well, softer than usual after the recent rains.

This course would be difficult to walk as numerous tees are a long way from the last green. GPS to the front/middle/back of the green only. The customer service was excellent as usual here. Plenty of water stations on the course. Drink cart out making the rounds. Good practice facilities with complementary range balls although the range tops out about 220 yards. Fun layout, Recommended.

Playing Conditions 7.32 GREAT

Got to take out a client in Vegas this week and played with another local who managed to get us a very sweet deal at the usually very high-cost Bali Hai resort course. I believe the normal rack rate here is around $300, so having only paid a third of that was pretty outstanding. I’ve wanted to play this track so many times and it finally came together, and luckily the weather played along as well. It was cold, but the rain didn’t start until just after finishing with a sweet POP of just 3.5 hours.

The course itself is very fun and has a surprising amount of elevations in the fairways, creeks and water. Not too much in the way of long carries, but there are definitely a good variety of hole lengths here and the par 3s gave me a tough time all day. The island green is pretty cool too but not too tricky as it’s only around 130 yards or so, but you still have to stick it.

Winter conditions were good overall and of course having to take into account the recent rains that certainly affected the bunkers and many of the lower-lying areas. Dark green fairways that looked more lush than they actually played, but provided good lies all morning. The rough has been left dormant so it’s a striking contrast with its beige hues against either water, sand or the aforementioned green fairways. Bunkers had mostly very good, playable sand in them but they were probably a bit heavier than normal with the recent precipitation. Tee boxes (we played the gold tees) were fine – no troubles there.

Cart service was around early and often, even with very few people out on the course most of the morning. We did catch a group on 8 and 9 but they let us pass at the turn and it was smooth sailing from there. We also got a lunch voucher for after the round so that worked out great.

Again, the only unfortunate thing was that the weather was quite cold, but not the Arctic temps we were expecting the night before. Still, my idea of playing this course is most definitely in shorts and sweating a lot, so I still will need to come back and do it right later in the year. Hope I can find that great deal again, but I’m guessing during high season that might be a bit more difficult.

After the Fresno area has gotten POUNDED with rain the last couple weeks, and after calling around to see what courses were CPO, and even one course was no carts at all. Dragonfly was allowing carts on course, which at first, I thought they were just trying to get more people out playing on a Holiday Monday, but sure enough, the course drains well!

Rates out here are quite interesting, they change by the hour, which we teed off after 1pm. We thought there was a chance of finishing but wouldn’t be shocked not to.

Overall, the course is in decent shape, especially with how much water we have gotten in the area lately. The tee boxes weren’t cut in a while, and there was some uneven grass areas. The tee markers were in much smaller areas to protect the overall tee boxes. The fairways are dormant right now, but have good coverage, and they were wet, but never had a mud ball or a ball that plugged. The greens were soft, and never plugged either. Only issue was putting, with the greens being so soft there was a ton of spike marks and putts would bounce around, especially around the cup.
Bunkers had a lot of water in them, and you can see that they are trying to reconstruct some and dig into some of the faces that might have started to collapse with all the rain.

Overall, one of the top courses in Fresno. They have bumped their prices since Fig Garden closed down at the end of December, but heard Riverside has done the same.

Make sure you bring water with you, there is nothing on the course for drinking!

Played on Friday, 2/8, at 9:30 with John_T. Course had a frost delay but any back-up was cleared up by the time we teed off and we didn’t see any delays. Joined a single on #2 and picked up another single on #5, as we chased a lackadaisical twosome around. Finished in just under 4 hours, actually waiting on every tee on the back.

Course conditions were very similar to Palm. Tee boxes need a little work, but nothing that affects play. Fairways were in great shape, firm with some run out. All green with no dirt areas. Rough was just long enough to define the fairway and not very penal. Bunkers had some work done in the last month or 2 and showed great improvement. Better than Vegas average sand. Greens were not as good as Palm’s greens yesterday. Very firm, but a shade slower and very bumpy. A couple of greens were showing thin areas.

Mountain is my home course, it’s a good test and has very tricky to read greens. Always fun.

When I called to play here last week, they only had 9 holes open due to the rains, but confirmed that all 18 were open. Also was told that frost would not be a factor for walkers. (Carts on path otherwise)

First off a few minutes after 6am. Very cold, mid 30’s, and frost present, but not on the greens which were really nice. The greens which were mowed were reasonably fast and rolled well. Most of the fairways were in good shape, but the areas adjacent to the fairways still showed the residual of all the rains. (Lots of flooded areas) Only in one bunker – well maintained and plenty of sand.

Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Enjoy playing this course despite the fact it is not the most visually appealing course at times.

Played in what was supposed to be a tournament but became unofficial when too many people cancelled because of forecast rain. The course was great in working with us under the circumstances and getting out those that wanted to play. And it did rain, at times, which really did not affect the course until the last hole when the downpour quickly turned the fairway into a quagmire and the green into a pond. Cart path only (I walked), 5.5 hour round.

The fairways were the worst I have seen them. I play here at least once a year and I have never had a negative opinion of the fairways. For whatever reasons, the grass was sparse in places, many places. Light rough was not a factor. Good sand in the bunkers.

The greens were great. Quite fast with tricky pin positions.

The 19th hole here is great, which we enjoyed with the club member who had a hole in one on number 7. Very nice.

A little late with this review but still wanted to do so. A good friend and I went out on Friday 2/8 to play SA and had an 8:22 tee time. Got paired with a couple of cocky guys that frankly wish we hadn’t but that’s a story for another day. It was a beautiful day but there was a lot of rain the days before so I expected a lot of golfers. I was right, it was packed.

Got out about 15 minutes late following a slow 5 some. Finished in about 4:45. The fairways are still winter brown but did notice green starting to come about on many holes. I guess they weren’t able to get the mowers out yet so some of the fairways were thick and therefore not much roll out. Made the course play longer. Some bad lies out there but we were playing LIFT CLEAN PLACE (LCP.) Not much rough to speak of. The bunkers however were hard. The rain I’m sure led to this but never seen this before at SA. Usually, they’re soft. Hopefully, they will address this when the rain stops.

The greens were better than I have seen them here before albeit grainy as usual and on the slow side. They were also hard and not holding.

Overall good conditions but I’m expecting better conditions in the upcoming spring time resulting from the rain.

I’m not sure how they do it, but $209 for Monarch and Tijeras is an absolute steal. Forget the 2 1/2 hour drive back to Valencia. I only bought one green voucher and ordered the second in the Pro-shop.  It was immediately emailed to me.  Thank God, because the rack rate was $230 and I’m not paying that.

Rode the blacks both rounds, teeing of at 7:30 then again right after at 11:40. Everything at this course is first class, all employees are extremely professional. The course is in fantastic shape, tee to green lush, no bare spots absolutely perfect day of golf.

My rating won’t do it justice, I highly recommend it even if it’s a drive, it’s worth it. I’m playing Valencia Monday in the SCGA event so I will have something to compare it too.
