On Friday 6/28, we played here for the first time. I called the pro shop when we arrived at the hotel to check on availability and non resident rates. Spoke with Chris who was friendly and answered all my questions.
We headed over to the course for a late afternoon round , figuring we’d get in at least 12 or so holes, since we were starting after 4:15 pm. Chris got us going upon our arrival and was just as friendly in person as he was on the phone. He called and had their cart person bring up a cart for us. Kai arrived in moments, also great with customer service and friendliness. Got us on our way quickly.

The course was in good shape, despite the heat. Even though the course winds through neighborhoods, most of the fairways allowed you to not be precise with your tee shots. If you happened to miss, the rough was playable. The greens were only good and not great because they apparently have a lot of people play this course who do not understand how to repair a ball mark! ??

Even though it was hot and breezy, which probably kept some people away, I was still amazed that we finished the round in under 3 1/2 hrs! As we drove the cart back, Kai was waiting to assist us in unloading, making sure we left nothing on the cart. He was very engaging and wanted to be sure we had a good time.

The Bottom-line

We told him we had a great time, but he should suggest to management that they change the start time of their sprinklers by 45 minutes to an hour this time of year, as the last coup of holes – around the 7:30 pm. time frame, we had to dodge them to finish, and there was still a good amount of daylight left.
Definitely worth a visit!!

Played on Saturday, 2/23; following a few days of snow and freezing weather. 8am tee time which was pushed back to just after 9 due to a frost delay. We were second out and cruised around with a 3:30 Pace of Play (POP).  We never saw anyone in front or behind us.

Course was in decent shape considering the cold weather with rain and snow the last few weeks.

Tee boxes mostly level.  There was a little amount of divot damage.  But a weird marker placement on the par3 #4, with the markers all the way in the back of the box with a significant uphill lie was my only complaint.

Fairways are close cut; mostly dormant Bermuda. Rough is also dormant Bermuda, but hasn’t been cut.  So expect some chances of the ball settling down and some gnarly lies.

Bunkers have seen some improvement — from horrible in the past to average Vegas type sand.

I was expecting some firm, fast frozen greens with lots of roll, but found them receptive and a medium speed.

Parting Thoughts

I think Aliante gets a bad rap due to the residential neighborhood, but the houses are mostly out of play and not as narrow as people make it out to be. I find the course to be fun, only 2 holes really repeat (#6 and #12 have really similar looks), a nice variety of par 3s (from 100 to 200 yards), and a couple of risk/reward par 4s and go for it par 5s. While it’s not a destination course, it’s a nice local course to get out on.

Played on Friday, 10/5, with John_T around 9:15. Paid $38 city resident rate. Paired up with some retired locals, one being a guy who was casino manager at 2 different places I worked because Vegas is a small town. Pace was a bit slow, finishing in 4:45, even with the group ahead dropping out after 9.

Course came out of reseeding in great shape. Full access with a 90 degree rule. Tee boxes a bit shaggy but mostly level. The Bermuda rough is starting to go dormant, with some areas really thick and others a little more manageable. Fairways are spectacular. Full coverage and lush. I had heard the greens were really bad before they closed for maintenance. It shows they put a lot of work into them. Greens were smooth and medium speed, however, #2 and #3 are playing temp greens and #15 has Ground Under Repair (GUR) marked off at the far back. The bunkers have also improved since the last time I played and are more consistent with most Las Vegas courses.

Customer service was good. Drink cart around about 5 times. The grill after the round was small but great food and service.

I really enjoy playing Aliante. While it does play through a boring residential area, the course is fun and no 2 holes are the same (outside of 7 and 12). The houses don’t really come into play but anything rolling into the brush on either side of the fairway or the arroyo crossing a few fairways is lost. Good course to have a great time on.
