Catching up on this review from Wednesday 6/10. Good times out at Ridge Creek Dinuba with rgm2525, CenCalGolfer33 and Deepsea14. It’s a great location for a meet-in-the-middle for SoCal and NorCal golfers. It’s also a great course that has yet to ever disappoint me. Personally I think it’s vastly underrated as far as rating and slope, this golf course has some serous teeth. Fairways are generous for the most part but miss them and almost always pay a steep price in deep rough, hazard or a nasty bunker. Greens are large but no push over. And if the wind kicks up this already long golf course, 7482 from the tips, will have you for lunch.

Golf Playing Conditions 6.74 GOOD
Golf Playing Conditions 6.74 GOOD

We teed off at 11:30 and finished in just over 4 hours with no waiting. Greens in great shape, holding shots but a touch slower than times I’ve played them in past. Their COVID-19 precautions pins were the only negative as they hardly let the ball drop so you need to agree upon prior to the round with your group what a good or not good putt is just in case. Fairways played fantastic. Last year the fairways were more lush and green but were also soft. Aesthetically they looked better then but they play much better this time allowing release on golf shots you would expect from the links style course. Plus the lies were great all day. Love fairways like this. Rough was beastly if you found the second cut. Hit and miss, well mostly miss, at finding your ball. The first cut was about an inch above the fairways and easy to hit from. Greenside rough varied in length and let me give you a word of advice, take an unplayable drop if you are in it wherever you are on the golf course. I took an 8 on hole 4 because it took me 4 lob wedge hack shots to escape it. Tee boxes in good shape but a little dry. Bunkers, COVID-19 conditions with no rakes and I believe they allow you take a free drop from them. Sand is old, hard and compressed. My guess is this has a lot to do with COVID-19. Personally I think they should fill in some of the bunkers in that need extreme work. Would be a cool look on some of the holes.

Amenities at Ridge Creek Dinuba as well as service are excellent. It’s a must that you experience the massive decked out practice facilities when visiting and enjoy the food from Jack’s restaurant if you have time. They are doing take out for golfers making the turn or you can now dine in on the patio social distanced. Bummer I did not have time after the round to grab a bite there as I normally do.

Check out the photos I posted. We might be doing an outing there in November.

They punch the greens 6/22 & 6/23 so try to get up there before that but if you don’t once the greens heal the golf course will be in excellent shape in July. Highly Recommended.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.26 GOOD
Golf Playing Conditions 7.26 GOOD

Got in a nice pre-Vegas warm up round at Ridge Creek with RGM2525. Track is in it’s usual great shape with the fairways once again stealing the show. I easily rated the fairways at an 8.5-9. And I’m proud to say that I found a lot of fairways for a complete testing for that rating.

Tee boxes weren’t far behind the fairways. Lush, level and good coverage. There are a couple of short Par 3’s at Ridge Creek so naturally those tee boxes during our mid afternoon round had some divots. Was still able to find plenty of clean area to hit from.

Sand traps will always be the weakness of valley courses. It’s no exception here. Having said that the one green-side bunker I was in I was able to get out of clean and save par. So they can’t be all that bad!

Greens…. Ridge creek has the perfect greens as far as size, undulations, softness and speed. The one down side from keeping them from a 9 or 10 is that they do often get riddled with ball marks from time to time. Today was no exception. There were a few greens where my putt was effected by a pitch mark.

POP was fine. A little bit of waiting on a couple of tees. Only because the twosome in front of us were older and not hitting it as far off the tee so we would have to wait for them to clear out. Once they were on the green they cleared out quickly.

Final Thoughts

I always enjoy Ridge Creek, not only for the good course conditions but for the off course amenities. The restaurant and clubhouse are Real buildings and make you feel like you’re at a top notch course. I ate at the restaurant before and after the round! Only place in the valley I’ll eat fish tacos!!

Golf Playing Conditions 7.63 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.63 GREAT

Conditions remain steady at Ridge Creek. Fairways are starting to show some weathering from the summer heat in that they are 50/50 green/brown. However, even the brown areas still offer a great platform to hit from. Greens were rolling medium/fast with a bit more pitch marks than the last time but not nearly as many as from a few months ago.

Tee boxes are a solid 8, nice level and lush with very few divots. Rough is always nasty at Ridge Creek. Anything outside the first cut is game over. Same goes for the long grass around the lips of the bunkers. I lost two balls in bunkers today.

POP was ok. Given it was a weekend, I suppose it wasn’t too bad. Ridge Creek is all about keeping it in the fairway and out of the bunkers. Do that and you can set a PR. Start going wide even to the point of hitting the fairway and rolling into rough and your score balloons like crazy.

Customer service is great and I always enjoy when I have the time to eat at the restaurant afterwards.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.02 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.02 GREAT

Great time Wednesday teeing it up at 3:30pm with GK’ers Alex326, cencalhack, rgm2525 and CenCalGolfer33. Finished in 4 ½ hours. Would have been quicker but we let some singles and a twosome play through.

The Review

Golf course was in excellent condition. Fairways a 10 for me. So lush with perfect lies all day. Greens were in great shape although very soft so there were many marks since each shot left a big ball mark and too many golfers decided not to fix theirs. Never bad enough to impact your putting much but hurt to look at the scares on such nice greens. Last time I played the golf course the greens were firm so this was a change. Also they were faster last time but given the forecast is 10 days of 100+ temps, I understand the need to keep them a little longer. Tees super lush in great shape. Rough, oh boy, you don’t was to find the secondary rough, its very long fescue and unless you get lucky your ball is bye-bye lost. The primarily berumada rough was just cut so we got fortunate because with all the heat and humidity I could see it being brutal sticky difficult to hit from under normal circumstances. The bunkers greenside in good shape with quality sand. The fairway bunkers pretty firm which I don’t mind.

Personal Thoughts

I love this golf course. The layout is a blast. Great ball striker grip and rip track. Ample room to find the fairway but spray a shot, any shot, the golf course makes you pay big time with very tough bunkers and as mentioned very difficult rough. The greens are challenging yet fair. Nice, big and undulated. There is not one let down hole. I wish this golf course was not 3+ hours from me but I gladly make a day trip once or twice a year to play it from SoCal. Treat yourself to this gem one day.

Practice facilities are very large and loaded with everything. They even have a some dedicated wedge zones with green complexes. It’s awesome.

Restaurant is excellent with a view of the 9th hole. This was the first time I did not eat there when playing the golf course because we finished so late.

Staff very friendly and professional.

Check out the photos I just posted. We played under a red sun due to the fire near Yosemite – however smoke did not effect the day, it was high in the atmophere.

Highly recommended.

A quick update on course conditions. Greens are fast and smooth as usual but are starting to show signs of needing aeration. Still, they remain a strong suit of the course. Fairways are dormant but very playable. Sand traps actually have SAND!!!

The Maintenance crew was out today dumping sand in a few of the bunkers so it looks like they are in the process of upgrading the bunkers to quality sand.

After that the only thing the course needs is a lake or two. Clubhouse is the best in the valley with Pheasant Run being a close second. Nothing else even comes close.

Always a decent course on the Central Valley stop. Cencalhack did an excellent job describing conditions and the layout of the course. Greens remain the strong point of the course. They are fairly large with some challenge but predictable breaks. Carts offer pin sheets with greens broken down into thirds so the pin sheet will just give you a front , middle or back location.

Fairways are dormant but still very playable. Tee boxes on the par 3’s were all in need of some Maintanence. they were horrible. All of the other tee boxes were decent. I agree, the course plays harder than it suggests. The main thing here is keeping your tee shot in the fairway and out of a fairway bunker. as long as you do that it’s a very scoreable course in that there’s not much trouble around the greens outside the traditional bunkering

Ridge creek also makes you feel like your actually at a GOLF course and not just a random field with 18 flagsticks. By that, I mean, they have a nice rock waterfall entrance, a great practice area (grass range, multiple chipping and full wedge stations) and the pro shop & restaurant buildings actually have some nice architectural design to them.

Yes, this course is in the middle of nowhere but it doesn’t feel like it once you enter the grounds
