Played 6/27/20 3:00pm. Last Tee time of the day, but heard they will be extending last tee soon. No problem getting 18 in.

Course is in over all great condition.

Love the fairway’s. Great coverage. Great roll & nice lies.

Greens were very receptive running a little on the slow side and a little bumpy in the afternoon.

You can really see all the footprints in the waning light. love twilight golf here with the great views of the valley. Easy recommend.

The frost has taken a pretty good bite out of the visuals. Like Forest92 mentioned, the course is firm and fast. Even the greens were a little faster than typical. But as dry and thin as it might look, it still plays great. Enough cushion from the fairway’s to make great contact and put some stank on the balls for the firm greens.

Traps & tees typical mediocre.

Over all in very playable condition and still one of my favorite courses to play.

Played 11/16/19. Went out at 1:30 and the course was packed. Parking lot was full. Never seen it that packed before. Very slow play and did not finish.

Fairway’s are mostly full coverage, green and cut close. They often dye them and they look really good along the dormant rough. Looks like a Palm Springs course.

Greens were a little bumpy, but typically are by late morning from the foot traffic. Were receptive and running about medium pace.

Overall in really good shape, easy recommend.

Fairway’s green and mostly lush with good roll. Ball sat very nicely. Few browned areas mixed throughout as you would expect for late summer. Over all very nice to hit from.

Greens very receptive with decent roll and running a touch over medium. They are in great shape. Bunkers mixed. Some hard, some not. Some with rocks, some with not. Tees are always the week spot on the course. They are generally small and get beat up pretty good, but still decent enough to hit from. Saw the cart girl twice.

The course is in over all great shape and a easy recommend.

This was my first time playing Mt. Woodson and what a great course. Layout is fantastic with numerous elevation changes throughout the course to go along with some water hazards.

There are HUGE boulders that range in the size of a car to a small house that line the course which really defines this track as it’s own identity. Being that we have much much smaller versions of rocks lining the backyard putting green the boulders around the course really hit the appeal button for me.

The Review

Golf Playing Conditions 7.50 GREAT

Greens were a very nice dark green color indicating they were super healthy. Greens were soft easily holding approach shots. In fact I might say they were even a bit too soft as there were a couple of tire track indentations from the mower on a couple of greens.

Fairways were a joy to hit from. I’d rate the fairways at a 7.5-8. I can’t comment on the rough. I was either in the fairway or waaaaay off and into the bushes. Sand traps were average in that a couple were a bit thin and others had nice quality soft sand.

We set our own POP with the group in front being long gone and the group behind us never really pushing us.

Final Thought

A definite recommended course and I can see this track being a new staple in my San Diego rotation.

Played Mt. Woodson for the first time with other Guru’s and was lucky to be paired with fellow GK’ers Tim and Brady. Fun guys to play with and a big thank you to these two guys for helping me through the layout, advising me on where to hit it. Would have been hurting without em as course knowledge is really a must here.

But the course is as nice as they come. Interesting, hilly and fun layout that meanders through the hills and although just over 5700 yards, it’s not easy. Target golf meaning you can keep the driver in the bag on quite a few holes. Fairways were in great condition. In fact one hole, #13 the fairway seemed near perfect all the way through the green. Lies were all great. The rough was a bit thick but that was expected. Tee boxes could use some work but nothing really bad. Was not in any bunkers but they looked like they were in good shape.

The greens were really nice as well. Rolled very nice at about medium pace but held all shots.

Cute little grill with good food and I guess that would be my only complaint. The grill is right next to the #10 tee box and I noticed many groups stop to load up with food when they make the turn. Understandable to get a bite to eat but I can see that really slowing down play. I had a lot of fun out there and am looking forward to the next time I am out there. I have already talked this place up with a couple of friends and giving it some nice props.

Played our GK match here yesterday just after the rains. Holes 1,8,10,18 were very soggy due to them being the lowest holes on the course, 10 had a new water feature. Despite the sogginess the course was in fantastic shape.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.95 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.95 GREAT

The fairways that were not soggy were lush and green, probably the best I have ever seen here. Greens were soft and ran smooth. On hole 8 they already punched half of the green but it was far enough away from the hole that it did not factor. Sand is probably really nice but it was soaked yesterday, it still was soft enough to escape but very difficult when half had standing water. Rough had been cut shorter than usual and is a little bit of a mixed bag with two types of grass. It made for some clumpy lies.

Overall this course is a must play and offers a variety of different holes and scenic vistas from a majority of the holes.

First time playing Mt. Woodson today. Great day and great conditions. A few of the tee boxes were a bit chewed up but that was the only real blemish I saw. Can’t wait to play it again.

We played slow but that was solely our fault. Played some older guys so getting to their balls and hitting took a while. We were the first group behind a shotgun tourney. Never saw anyone after the second hole. Nobody behind us all day. By the time we finished we saw a group maybe 2 holes behind us that started to catch up. So peaceful.

The starter did tell us we were playing slow at the turn. Not sure if he was joking because we never saw anyone most of the day.
