Playing Conditions 7.32 GREAT

Played 6/27/20 3:00pm. Last Tee time of the day, but heard they will be extending last tee soon. No problem getting 18 in.

Course is in over all great condition.

Love the fairway’s. Great coverage. Great roll & nice lies.

Greens were very receptive running a little on the slow side and a little bumpy in the afternoon.

You can really see all the footprints in the waning light. love twilight golf here with the great views of the valley. Easy recommend.

Played 2-15-20 12:40 POP 4.5 hrs.

The frost has taken a pretty good bite out of the visuals. Like Forest92 mentioned, the course is firm and fast. Even the greens were a little faster than typical. But as dry and thin as it might look, it still plays great. Enough cushion from the fairway’s to make great contact and put some stank on the balls for the firm greens.

Traps & tees typical mediocre.

Over all in very playable condition and still one of my favorite courses to play.

Played 11/16/19. Went out at 1:30 and the course was packed. Parking lot was full. Never seen it that packed before. Very slow play and did not finish.

Fairway’s are mostly full coverage, green and cut close. They often dye them and they look really good along the dormant rough. Looks like a Palm Springs course.

Greens were a little bumpy, but typically are by late morning from the foot traffic. Were receptive and running about medium pace.

Overall in really good shape, easy recommend.

First time playing Mt. Woodson today. Great day and great conditions. A few of the tee boxes were a bit chewed up but that was the only real blemish I saw. Can’t wait to play it again.

We played slow but that was solely our fault. Played some older guys so getting to their balls and hitting took a while. We were the first group behind a shotgun tourney. Never saw anyone after the second hole. Nobody behind us all day. By the time we finished we saw a group maybe 2 holes behind us that started to catch up. So peaceful.

The starter did tell us we were playing slow at the turn. Not sure if he was joking because we never saw anyone most of the day.

Played here 9/1 with fellow GK member jpeairs85 on a good GolfNow deal with a 1:10pm tee time. I hadn’t been out here since the last GK Plays here and reading the reviews, it was good to see they were still applicable. For a course where you would absolutely understand the summer taking its toll, there were green fairways, smooth greens, and a wonderful experience overall.

The Review

Golf Playing Conditions 6.88 GOOD
Golf Playing Conditions 6.88 GOOD

Tee-boxes: Okay condition, though I distinctly remember a handful of holes where the turf was chewed up. This may be because everyone plays the blues here to maximize the short yardage, however even the worst conditioned boxes still had enough area to tee it up.

Fairways: Great condition. I loved the green color, the condition of the grass resulted in great lies, and the run was more than fair on a course where most people keep the driver in the bag. A fair amount of divots but it was busy and teeing off in the afternoon always results in more divots.

Rough: Where it existed, it was thick. Of course the canyons and natural contour of the course is the real “rough” here, however I saw at least three shots that landed in the thick stuff and absolutely disappeared, so it does exist and it can be penal.

Bunkers: Varied from great to mediocre, just depended on the hole and type of bunker. A few green-side bunkers (namely hole 8) had Augusta-type sand; others (like hole 2) had coarse beach sand. No footprints thankfully, but wish there was more consistency with sand.

Greens: Great condition. They rolled quick and smooth, visually a pleasure to putt on and only a few greens had burned out spots on them that did NOT affect play. Well done Mt. Woodson!

Final Thoughts

ETC: Staff was very friendly and allowed us to tee off early (in spite of 1pm marking the start of twilight rates). Grill offered good and moderately priced food. Pace of play was just a shade over 4 hours, which was excellent. Course layout is insanely fun; don’t let the short yardage fool you. Carts could stand to be upgraded next, but everything here is done well and I will surely be back soon.

Played in the Thursday night twilight event. 7/12/18 Course is in really good shape. There are a few brown/dry areas in the fairway’s. Mostly along the edges, but mostly in very good shape. Greens were great. Very receptive and were running at a good speed with only some minor bumps.

Big thumbs up !

Golf Playing Conditions 7.39 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.39 GREAT

I played yesterday joined by rudyclub. I used the birthday deal of $12 cart fee. The guys in the pro shop were so friendly and it was no problem that I had forgotten to bring the printed voucher with me. This was my third time playing here and it was, without any doubt, the best conditions I’ve ever seen here. The fairways were lush with hardly any brown spots. There were quite a few divots along the way but none that affected my lies. The tee boxes were not all level and had lots of divots but again, no problem. I was in two bunkers. One was very damp but both had plenty of sand. The greens were awesome. They were so soft that ball marks were really deep but it seemed the players before us did a good job of repairing theirs because I found very few other than my own to fix. The greens are challenging with some hard to see breaks and a good medium fast speed. This is such a fun course. It’s short but definitely challenging with its target style layout. That, combined with the beautiful scenery, has made Mt. Woodson a favorite. If it was closer I’d play it a lot more often. Highly recommended .
