Golf Playing Conditions 6.91 GOOD
Played Oak Creek on 1/10/20. Pretty standard winter conditions at OC….greens are nice, very smooth and not too fast. Rough is thick. Sand is better than I expected given the amount of rain last month.
Fairways are generally good, but the grass coverage is very thin and cut very short, making lies very tight. It is bordering on punishment for hitting fairways compared to hitting the rough. Chipping from the fairway is very difficult. Our foursome probably had 10-15 chunked chips, you have to made perfect contact off the hardpan.
Fairway complaint aside, still a great layout in very good conditions. Highly recommended.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.47 GREAT
I played Oak Creek on Tuesday, teeing off at about 10:00. I played for free, having been given a free round by gk “Gold Vest Member” mcantos … best Christmas present, so far.
The course was cart path only. Though I took a cart, I definitely felt like I had walked the course by the time I was done. By the way, did you know that you’re allowed to walk Oak Creek? I did not know that. Anyway, call first after it rains if you have ambulatory issues.
Course conditions were pretty good, considering the inconsistency of the recent weather. Tee boxes had been punched on a few holes, and the grass was a little fuzzy. Fairways were generally good, with increased divot damage due to cpo. The rough was short and very playable. There were many footprints in the bunkers I was in (I guess the clientele thinks the high green fee means someone else will rake the sand). The greens were the best part. They were smooth and a little slower than usual due to the rain.
I really like the Fazio layout at Oak Creek. The best part of the experience is the secluded feel of the golf course. I feel like I’m out in the country when I play here. I highly recommend playing here if you can fit the price into your budget.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.66 GREAT
The course is in great shape right now.
The fairways had no thin lies. Tee boxes were level throughout with plenty of grass.
Rough was not very penal, but consistent throughout.
Fairway and green-side bunkers have plenty of sand and are well-maintained.
The greens are the fastest I have seen them since I started playing here about a year ago. Although there are a few unrepaired pitch marks, they did not affect any putts.
They have been renovating the 18th hole tee box which has caused it to play as a par 4 rather than a par 5.
Fortunately, it looks like the renovations are very close to being completed. Completed the round in 3.5 hours (tee off at 7:21 am).
GK Gurus Visit Oak Creek Golf Club Irvine California

I joined in the GK Cup Final outing and had a super fun time playing with Matt, Blake, and Greg. I’ve played Oak Creek a few times before and I was really happy for another opportunity. They have very friendly and helpful staff members so check in always fast and efficient. The practice facility has grass stalls, a large chipping and bunker area and putting green. There is another green behind the starter’s desk.
Golf Playing Conditions 7.52 GREAT
I like how this course feels very secluded. There are no houses to be seen from anywhere on the course. Other than a little bit of street sound, it’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of suburbia.
The course was in really good shape. The fairways were a mix of green and brown but coverage was complete and very well cushioned. There were a couple of areas that had signs of recent punching but the holes didn’t affect play.
By some miracle. I was not in any bunkers. There seemed to be more than an ample amount of sand in them.
The greens are fun and frustrating. There are breaks that you don’t expect and putts don’t break when you think they will. Among our group we had a dozen putts miss seemingly by just a single blade of grass.

Golf Playing Conditions 6.36 GOOD
Oak creek has amazing personnel working for them. Everyone is very accommodating and helpful. Their cart GPS system is the best I have ever seen; akin to the touch screen on a Tesla since it is huge and in the middle of the cart. The driving range here has been grass every time I have played the course but it is super expensive! Pro-tip: make sure to let them know you are playing that day and you get the “member” price for range balls.
Greens:
Rolled super true but slower than I would have hoped. Their practice green near the starter was at a totally different speed than the front 9 greens.
Fairways:
The fairways were firm but soft enough to get really nice crisp iron shots with nice shallow divots. Nothing too tricky on any of the tee shots into the fairways, however there are a few speed slots that exist (#10 up the right) that I am still trying to figure out. Great coverage on the fairways with no real divot issues.
Bunkers:
Bunkers were definitely penal today. The fairway bunkers were wet on the front 9 and fluffy on the back 9 (temperate swing from 65 at tee off to about 85 by hole 10). A lot of the green-side bunkers were labelled as ground-under-repair and roped off so I do not have any information on those other than they looked to be in excellent shape so I am not sure what their intention was with the Ground Under Repair (GUR.)
Tee Boxes:
Flat with good grass coverage. Some areas were a bit torn up on the par 3s but that is to be expected when their par 3s are long or have a lot of trouble so people hit multiple shots (as we witnessed by watching the group in front of us hit almost every tee shot on each hole.)
Rough:
About 1.5-2″ long. Depending on how it was sitting, the rough was deep/thick enough to produce dead shots or snap a club face closed.
Overall:
Great course and a fun layout. Definitely a great course to try but make sure to keep an eye out for deals!

Played Saturday 4/20 morning, I lucked out and was able to get out for free with a friend.
Golf Playing Conditions 6.58 GOOD
Greens have healed from whatever punching was done, were fairly firm and fast. Only green I could tell was punched recently was #14 on the back and it was minimal, still very nice. Greens were definitely the highlight of the course.
Fairways are a little dried out and brown, allowing for excellent roll off the tee and some tight lies on wedges. Rough is fluffy and hit or miss and inconsistent around the course. Was in two bunkers and caught some good lies but the sand out here is definitely inconsistent.
Course is hosting a US open qualifier on Wednesday May 8th, so conditions, particularly the greens should be very nice around that time and quick. I saw a regular rate at the time we were playing was about 180 bucks, tough to spend that much on golf myself, if I had to pay I’d probably head to inland empire for 50 bucks or somewhere like goosecreek for better conditions.

Golf Playing Conditions 6.17 GOOD
Started my New Year with an AM round here. POP 4.5 hours, mostly due to the 25-30 mph wind that was making quick play impossible. It was a 3-4 club wind all day until around 17 when it finally started to die. Played with a nice couple who we’re on their 5th day in a row of golf (lucky husband). Staff all around was great as usual here.
Tee Boxes: 7/10. Even and plenty of coverage. Some divot repair needed on par 3s as always
Fairways: 6/10. Good lies all day with ok roll out. Brown and yellow mostly, but not thin.
Rough: 5/10. Hit or miss. In places it was thin with just dirt, and in others it was a club thick.
Bunkers: 5/10. Good sand, just way too much of it. I found it fine but other complained.
Greens: 8/10. They were pretty d%mn pure and the wind blew them out so good luck keeping downhill putts anywhere near the hole.
All and all, definitely worth the $69 I payed. Maybe even around $100. If you’ve never played it I would recommend. Great practice facility too (although you’ll have to sell a kidney for range balls).
