Golf Playing Conditions 8.40 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 8.40 GREAT

Played on 1/4/19 at 8:30am. Based on prior reviews from GK outing, it seems course has probably improved slightly since then.

Greens were great, rolling about 10.5-11. We had perfect sunny weather, no wind. It was really an incredible day on the course. Overall conditions were near perfect. Sure maybe a few areas in fairways that were not 10/10, but even those areas were solid. Rams Hill sets a high standard so its easy to be nit picky.

I took a scratch golfer who hadn’t been to Rams Hill yet and he was absolutely blown away. We’ll be back!

Super time. Great year end outing. Thanks everyone for coming out. I’ll be posting a recap on Wednesday.

Golf Course Review 8.44 GREAT
Golf Course Review 8.44 GREAT

Course conditions this year compared to last year’s outing were better. But like last year the golf course was rather saturated from all the recent rain. I’m used to Rams Hill Golf Club playing more firm. Sure makes for a long golf course and especially on the back nine when the wind kicked up. But have to say I did enjoy being able to be aggressive with my pitch shots and approaches. Not used to seeing their greens hold shots like that. Speaking of the greens thought they were mostly smooth, medium pace and mostly soft. I remember when the course first opened and the greens were like a pool table. Super firm, lightning fast and very smooth. Smooth and fast was great but it was near impossible to hold shots. How interesting how a golf course changes with maturity.

Fairways were super lush in most places with occasional thin spots where overseed washed out due to some the heavy rains. Still so beautiful and a pleasure to play from. Same goes for the rough. Sand traps had soft excellent well-manicured sand and the tee boxes good coverage/level lies. Aesthetically I don’t know if I’ve see the place look much better. Loved the continued surrounding landscape improvements and clubhouse upgrades (as well as the addition of the golf simulator). Check out the photos I just posted!

Following play we for the first time concluded it inside in their Santa Rosa Room (hope I got the name right). Very nice large private room with views of the 18th hole and driving range. I may want to always have our prizes and announcements in there for future outings.

This year, as in all times, the service was exceptional. Everyone very friendly and professional. The outing organized perfect. I can’t recommend this place enough for group outings and tournaments. Just a great golf experience worth the drive.

Played 11/18/19 8:30 am. Enjoyed a absolutely fantastic day of desert golf. Went out as a single and was paired with Trevor, another single who happened to be a GK member as well. The starter told us to jump a head to the 2nd to get in front of the two five-somes that were before us. It was as if we were the only players on the course and finished our 18th on the 1st hole at around 3.5 hrs. The only other group we saw were the ones we caught on the 17th.

Fairway’s 98% perfect. Emerald green & lush. There a many less than perfect areas mixed around the fairway’s, but were mostly only visual blemishes.

Greens were really good. Running at a pace above medium. They mark them at 10.5. Noticed an occasional sick area on a couple of greens, but again mostly just visual blemishes. Had a burger at the restaurant after and it was good and with fantastic scenery to enjoy.

Played on Nov 2nd. Couldn’t ask for a better day to play.

The Course is great shape but with a exceptions of just a few Dry Spots on some of the fairways as well as close to some greens.

Driving Range in great conditions with all you can hit for free ranges balls.

Other than that the Course is ready for the “Greenskeeper” crowd come December. Plenty of good sand in all bunkers, Tee Boxes in good shape and the greens in great condition.

Customer Service was outstanding as always.

Play today in beautiful weather in 3.5 hours the course is in fantastic shape the greens were running at 11.5.

Tee boxes were spectacular.

The fairways like lush carpet. Never once had a bad lie and the fairways were generous with roll.

The bunkers were great and so playable.

The greens here are just wonderful and such a pleasure to be able to bring your ball in and use the slope to get close to the pins. Not too mention how true they putt.

Stayed at Casa del Zorro and this is a fantastic Resort Hotel. Great variety of rooms and many Casitas with 2,3,4 bedrooms. Minutes from Rams Hill. Customer service at Rams Hill was excellent at all levels as always.

Rough was no big deal. Easy to get out of with little issue. Traps were in great condition & consistent. Tees Lush & level. The only less than perfect were the greens. They were mostly in good to great shape. Looked a little rough, but actually ran smooth with good roll at a little over medium pace. But many had sick/bare spots along the fringes. They mostly did not come into play, unless you were trying to putt across them or had to land a pitch on them. 90 % of the green surfaces were not affected. Only small portions.

Really enjoy getting out here. Easy recommend to go out & play.

Golf Playing Conditions 8.67 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 8.67 GREAT

Teed off yesterday at about 7:30ish and only saw a 2 someone and we let a single out ahead of us and really had no one else around us the entire time. Finished a little less than 4 hours and asked the starter about going back out and we were able to get out in 15 minutes. Caught a few groups on the back so we finished as the sun had set over the mountains so we finished just in the nick of time. We got 36 holes in for $80 which is a ridiculous if you ask me.

Course conditions were very solid all around and very consistent with all the reviews from the GK outing. Greens are fantastic. They rolled really well and held shots well. Even though my putting stats were terrible I thought the speed of the greens were very fair.

Fairways were outstanding. They are about as good as you can get. Generous room in the fairway and divots were filled in. I don’t recall any blemishes in the fairways at all.

Rough had some thickness to it. It couldn’t be taken too lightly. I had a couple sitting down on me and I wasn’t able to catch the ball cleanly.

Traps were consistent and ample sand in them.

Played the back tee boxes and they were all outstanding as well. Didn’t notice much differences on the other tee boxes as well.

Staff is top notch all around. The guys in our group like it so much they are already planning another one. Definitely worth playing right now.

Guess I am the first review for the GK Plays outing at Rams yesterday (12/9) and as always, it was a blast. Conditions here today mirrored those of almost every other time I have made the trip and it’s hard to walk away from this course unimpressed. Overall, every aspect of the day was fantastic. Played well for the first time here and that probably added to my ratings but here they are.

Course Review

Golf Playing Conditions 8.64 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 8.64 GREAT

Tee boxes: Played the blue tee boxes, but anytime a course of this caliber offers a fair amount of tee sets, it’s a huge plus as it helps avoid everyone playing from the same set (incorrectly I may add) thus avoiding major turf issues. Never had an issue finding solid footing, though on a few holes the turf was a tad harder to drive the tee into, however much of a first-world problem that may sound like.

Fairways: Like always, carpet-like and sparkling forest green pathways contrasting the wonderful desert background. Roll felt like it was more than fair, turf conditions were wonderful in that I had no bad lies to hit from and everyone from GK before me used the feed mix in their carts generously. Visually stunning to see a course where the fairways look like the photo on the scorecard.

Additional Thoughts

Rough: The times I found the “rough” yesterday weren’t overly penal, however I’m not certain I found anything that wasn’t fairway, water, sand, or desert more than twice. Those times the rough wasn’t half as thick as Torrey South, but it did hide the ball some and made me club up.

Bunkers: Was only in one all day and the sand consistency was excellent; offered ample amount of off-white beach style sand to at least attempt a sand save. Didn’t really hear any complaints about the fairway bunkers, so I assume all the sand was in good shape today. Did have a few bunkers that were poorly raked so I am hoping whomever that was in the groups ahead of us will give it a better effort next time.

Greens: Like all else, excellent shape sans one or two greens that had some burn out/turf issues that were thankfully on the extreme end of the pin placement. Roll today was fair (as opposed to the glass-like consistency in roll the first time I played here a few years ago) and I didn’t see any issues with the terrain. Again, my group (second to last) found quite a few craters from guys who had a heavy foot with their cleats, but that’s on them not the course.

Final Thoughts

ETC: Cart GPS wasn’t quite as accurate as I hoped in relation to pin placement, but outside of that, great to see the investment in this software as the digital scorecard even took into account any input handicaps in its calculations. Comfortable ride, USB chargers, and ice/water bottles in the coolers a plus. Staff was attentive and genuinely nice (everyone knew GK and welcomed us multiple times). Very nice to see the new Ram Shack (I believe that was the name) on the back 9, as it was much needed in past years. Cart attendant passed by our group at least 6-7 times. Food in the restaurant was good and fairly priced. Patio after was heated and offered a comfortable environment for post-match celebration. Thanks for everything Johnny and co.; this was a great way to end the year!
