Greenskeeper.org proudly presents it’s Worth the Green Fee Awards for 2017.

Worth the Green Fee” is awarded to golf courses open to the public listed on Greenskeeper.org that stand out above the rest with our site users at providing a consistent, quality golf experience at an outstanding price.

Let’s face it, golf can be expensive.  It doesn’t have to be.  All you have to know is where to play to get your best value and that’s something Greenskeeper.org excels.  In addition to helping golfers decide where to play their next round of golf based on reviews, ratings, and maintenance alerts, we’ve recently introduced our GK Coupons service to extend their deals directly to our golfers.

How Awards Winners Are Determined

Golf Course reviews and ratings submitted by our 70,000+ Greenskeeper.org community are tabulated over 12 months. Winners are determined for each area.

We divide awards into 11 sections —  Inland Empire, Los Angeles County, Orange County, Palm Springs Area, San Diego County, Santa Barbara County, Ventura County, Southern California, Central California, Northern California and Southern Nevada.

We provide the list below in no particular order.  This is done on purpose.  Any golf course that provides outstanding value to their region should not overshadow other golf courses simply because of their location.  We understand the golfing public mostly stay within their geographic boundaries.  Knowing where to play in your area is important.

Editor’s Note:  Johnny GK and Greenskeeper.Org has been recognized by the California Golf Course Owners Association as Good for the Game of Golf in 2017.  Shows you that both golfers and golf course operators understand the benefit of working with Greenskeeper.Org.  We are the RESOURCE where avid and casual golfers come to make their decision where to play their next round.  “Know Before You Go”® with Greenskeeper.Org.  You’ll be glad you did.

Playing Conditions 7.30 GREAT
Playing Conditions 7.30 GREAT

A word to the wise… if you like roller-coasters this might be the right course for you. I’m not a fan of roller-coasters or courses that make a difficult game much more difficult.

Black Gold has very friendly service and facilities and is well maintained. But this is a case of not having the right earth to put a golf course on. This one is laid over some rough, hilly terrain. This leads to some fairly extreme elevation changes and lots of blind shots. In addition, the architect seemed afraid of giving any impression of ease so even if you negotiate the many humps and dips and never-level lies, they have pot bunkers and barranca waiting for you. Once you make it to the green your trials are not over. These quick, immaculate greens have plenty of slope and run-off to take a light-touch putt right off the green.

The course is constantly scenic, with great expansive views—but you are also often playing down canyons of houses which adds a little anxiety to a wayward drive. Locals, who have played the course many times will be much more comfortable. But if this is your first time, bring extra balls and prepare to be punished. ALSO—note the slope ratings. You may often play Blue tees.

The Whites are sloped at 125 here—and I’m not sure if that is accurate (should be a 2-3 points higher IMO). Play the Whites. If you normally play Whites, play the Gold. Don’t kid yourself. The course won’t.
