Worth the Green Fee” is award to the golf courses open to the public listed on GreensKeeper.org that stand out above the rest with our site users at providing a consistent, quality golf experience at an outstanding price.

Let’s face it, golf can be VERY expensive, especially post Covid-19.  Thankfully for us, it doesn’t have to be.  All you have to know is where to play to get your best value and that’s something GreensKeeper.org excels.  In addition to helping golfers decide where to play their next round of golf based on reviews, ratings, and maintenance alerts, we’ve recently revamped our GK Coupons, GK Plays and GK Guru Visits.  Stay tuned for more chances to play some spectacular golf with our GK Golf Club or our USGA sanctioned SCGA GK Golf Club.

How Award Winners Are Determined

Golf Course Reviews and ratings submitted by our 76,000+ GreensKeeper.org community are tabulated over 12 months.  Winners are determined for each area.

This year we divide awards into 11 Regions —  San Diego County, Orange County, Los Angeles County, Inland Empire, Santa Barbara County, Palm Springs Region, and Ventura County with Regional Winners for Southern Nevada, Southern California, Central California, and Northern California.

We provide the list below in no particular order.  This is done on purpose.  Any golf course that provides outstanding conditions in their region should not overshadow other golf courses simply because of their location.  For most avid golfers, the playing experience is what matters.  Knowing where to play in your area is important.

Played 9-16-19 early morning walking as a single for $15(senior 55) and getting around the course in a little over 2 hours.

Golf Playing Conditions 6.19 GOOD
Golf Playing Conditions 6.19 GOOD

Tee boxes were in okay shape mostly level with decent coverage (except 16) with some divot damage on par threes and short par fours. Fairways for the most part were in good shape with good lies but did have some brown and bare areas. Rough was a little thick and wet this morning, with some bare spots here and there. Was in one green-side bunker on 11 that was a little thin with some small rocks in it. Greens were mostly in good shape with a few having some issues around the edges. They were a little on the soft side and rolling medium/slow with an occasional bump.

Overall course conditions were just okay but hard to beat the price.

Played 12-28-17 walking for $22, teeing off at 6:40 and finishing at 9:30 as a threesome. Greens for the most part were in good shape, some had some issues around the edges but most rolled pretty smooth with medium/fast speed. They were a little firmer on the back side but still held good shots. Fairways were starting to look a little thin but there were still decent lies. Rough was not to long with a few bare areas. Didn’t go into any bunkers but from watching playing partners some seemed to be a little thin while others seemed to have an ample amount of sand. Tee boxes were okay, some being lush while others were thin. Winter conditions seem to be setting in, but overall course is still in descent shape.

Played 12-7-16 early morning walking in about 3 hours joining a threesome in carts. Tee boxes are in descent shape, a little thin, some un-level, and shorter par fours and three pars with some divot damage. Fairways were in okay shape, semi-lush with some thin areas and some bare spots. Rough is mostly cut pretty low with some thicker areas and some bare spots. Didn’t go in any bunkers but they looked okay. Greens were in nice shape, medium/fast, rolling pretty true with an occasional bump, and holding shots real nice. Good course for a quick morning round.

My first time playing here yesterday. We had a 7:30 tee time at Rustic Canyon but the winds were so strong that the course was unplayable so we headed to De Bell. When we arrived there was no winds at all…..we got right out and enjoyed our round however this is not my style of course. Many holes are gimmicky and you would have to hit irons off of many tees. We enjoyed ourselves but no-one really felt the course had a wow factor that would bring us back. The tee boxes were mostly level, the greens were nice and had many breaks so were difficult but fun, the sand was okay, and the fairways were very spotty with GUR marked in many locations. You definitely have to hit every type of golf shot here to score well. Chipping, bump and run, lob shots, and tee shot placement are all needed. Great place to practice with a 4 hour pace for our foursome.

Why Did We Expand the Regions?

It’s simple.  Greenskeeper.org has been growing.  We expanded the number of regions because golfers like you have reported about golf course conditions in more places you play.  In short golfers come to us if they want informative, relevant golf course reviews and it’s all due to your, our GK Community’s, diligence.  You let us know your experiences and well if we hear about it everyone else does too.

Why so Many Regions?

Golf is an experience and every experience is unique.  Different golf courses offer different experiences.  What we look for in golf course reviews offers a little insight into every golf course we play.  Not just one point of view but many, and by providing many different points of view you get a clearer picture of what each golf course has to offer.  To that end we felt it necessary to provide regions with their own highlighted golf course.  Local players can enjoy the fact there is a great facility they can play just around their corner.  Golfers looking to experience new golf courses can play these and experience first-hand these unique golf experiences. Put simply, we allow not just your high-end. daily fee courses to shine but the local municipal as well.  They all deserve a fair shot and they all deserve to shine.

Attention Golf Course Operators

Not happy your golf course isn’t listed on our “Worth the Green Fee” List?  Do not fret.  Think of Greenskeeper.org as your way to improve the flow of golfers through your door.  Our core group of avid golfers are “Influencers.”  This means other golfers use their opinion to shape their decision where to play their next round of golf.  Take advantage of this.

Consider hosting a GK Plays Outing or GK Review Guru Visit which bring our golfers en mass to your golf course for an event, apply for our GK Coupon program (It’s free to try for the first 30 days), or GK Certificate Program or all of these things.  You’ll attract our core group.  They write responsible, informative and very relevant reviews.  And these reviews attract other golfers.  Mileage may vary but our programs are very popular and provide pretty stellar results.  And we have the numbers to prove it.
