#FlatJohnny Revival Because #Golf Isn’t An Option :(

BORED?

We are bored.

Telecommuting? Burned through all your notable binge watching on NETFLIX and AMAZON PRIME? Literally bored silly? Don’t get stir crazy.

We Have A Solution!

In light of our current pandemic and shelter-in-place orders, we figured a little humor is necessary to lighten the load because if you can’t laugh at your own crazy ingenuity and share it who can?

Re-introducing our #FlatJohnny Project

COVID-19 Doesn't Mean I Can't Think About Golf
COVID-19 Doesn’t Mean I Can’t Think About Golf

Download the PDF file below. We have updated our #FlatJohnny with optional “Hot Dog” Putter and COVID-19 M95 face mask to encourage social distancing. Decorate #FlatJohnny in whatever wacky golf get up YOU can come up with and take a few action shots of #FlatJohnny doing his part to Shelter-in-Place or out and about practicing Social Distancing, Hand Washing and other safety measures. Then share these photos on any social media using the hashtags #FlatJohnny #Greenskeeperorg.

We can get through this. We can definitely get through this with the appropriate safety measures in place and encouraging others to do the same.  It’s a small sacrifice for the sake of our loved ones, family, and friends.  NOW if you throw in a little humor to lighten this very serious mood you can at the very least make a sad situation bearable.

Thanks for your support.

2019 Best Playing Conditions for Southern Nevada – Cascata

BPC-Cascata GC - Best Playing Conditions - Southern Nevada 2019
Best Playing Conditions Award 2019 by GreensKeeper.org
Best Playing Conditions Award 2019 by GreensKeeper.org

This year GreensKeeper.org awards Cascata Best Playing Conditions 2019 for the Southern Nevada.

Not to be confused with “Worth the Green Fee,” “Best Playing Conditions” is awarded to golf courses open to the public listed on Greenskeeper.org that stand out above the rest with our site users at providing consistently the best greens, fairways, rough, tee boxes and bunkers around.

The job of the superintendent is the life blood of the golf course and most important contributing factor to enjoying a golf experience.  A golf course is a living, breathing organism whose health is constantly in flux.  It takes enormous dedication, resources and expertise by a superintendent and their staff to provide excellent turf conditions.

The rating system used on Greenskeeper.org is in part created by superintendents.  GreensKeeper.org’s trademark and creed, “Know Before You Go”®, centers on communicating these current playing conditions.

How Awards Winners Are Determined

Golf Course reviews and ratings submitted by our 78,000+ Greenskeeper.org community are tabulated over 12 months. Winners are determined for each area.

We divide awards into 11 sections —  Inland Empire, Los Angeles County, Orange County, Palm Springs Area, San Diego County, Santa Barbara County, Ventura County, Southern California, Central California, Northern California and Southern Nevada.

Golf Playing Conditions 9.78 IMMACULATE
Golf Playing Conditions 9.78 IMMACULATE

I was fortunate to play this course on 8/23. I have heard about the course and how great it was. My expectations were high and I did my best to try and temper them. I was afraid the hype would taint my opinion and that the course would not live up to expectation.

Finally arriving at the gate to the course, the exclusiveness of the course was apparent. Access granted at the private gate and we drove to the clubhouse. Car was valeted and clubs disappeared to be loaded on our cart. A host escorted us to the locker room which passed a stream that runs from the top of a mountain behind the driving range and right through the middle of the clubhouse. Pretty Cool! Arriving in the locker room, my name was printed on my personal storage space was a nice touch.

After changing shoes we headed off to the restaurant and enjoyed the eggs Benedict. Good recommendation.

Now let me talk about the trip to the golf cart. This was so cool. Carts were downstairs, inside the clubhouse. Bags were loaded, staff was there to help, and our caddie was there waiting. Once we got settled, we drove to the range. The coolest part of this was the automatic doors that opened to expose such a great view of the putting green, range with the waterfall backdrop, and the mountain scene behind that.

After meeting the caddie and warming up, we headed to the course. This was a fun course with elevated tee boxes, uphill and downhill holes since the course is on a mountain. I’ve never had a caddie before and don’t much like the idea of another set of eyes on my game, but Quincy was a big help. It was good to have his input on where to hit, but just as good for his keen ability to help find my ball when I didn’t stay on the fairway. The greens were challenging and on a few holes, there was no way I would even get close to the cup since reading them was so difficult. If I could execute Quincy’s direction, I’d be good, but knowing and doing don’t always match up.

This was a great experience. Was is able to knock my favorite course from the top spot…No. But it is a solid number 2, and if you were to throw in all of the extras in the experience, it would take top spot. Such a fun day.

Playing Conditions 9.16 IMMACULATE
Playing Conditions 9.16 IMMACULATE

I started my New Year’s Day here. I had a 8 A.M. tee time, but had a frost delay for about 30 min., after the delay was lifted, we where given the opportunity to go to the range and practice area. They have one of the best short game and practice area, that I’ve used.

Now to the game. The tee boxes have been one of the best I have played on in a long time. They are large firm and flat, with minimal, to not damage. The fairways are large and spacious, not too many trees to hit into. But there are so gorgeous and majestic views from some of the back 9 tee locations, so there are forced carry to reach the fairways. It is a must to play the proper tee locations, I played white, which was good for me. The fairways are firm flat and have some lushness to it. The rough was cut down, so it was easy to play through those lies.
The bunkers are placed on many of the holes, which adds to the beauty of this course. The sand was a bit firm, not fluffy, but playable. The greens rolled really fast, I mean really fast, but true. the greens also have some angulation, you need to read before striking your putt. If you are above the hole, be careful, because a miss 1st put may give you and additional 2 or 3 putts to finish. I saw more putts, barely tapped, run 8-10 feet passed, because of the angulation. A couple of hole had pin placements right on the edge of the slope.
Overall the course is in super condition, it has great views and character throughout the layout of the track. It should be a must play for your Bucket List for 2018.

Out this afternoon 12/4/2018 walking the orange tees joined by my buddy Mack and his buddy Brian and a nice single. We teed off at 11:50am 10 minutes early and finished at 4:20pm for a POP of 4 hrs 30 minutes–we played the front in 2 hrs and then had a 3 group back-up on #10 tee. Weather was beautiful maybe 1 club wind and around 70 degrees at tee off. Paid the walking twilight rate of $19.00 which considering how nice and lush the course is might be one of the best deals in Ventura County.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.29 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.29 GREAT

Soule Park should be commended on current conditions–very lush and green fairways with very little problem areas. Rated 8/10.

Greens looking and rolling beautiful. Very little to no ball marks, holding very softly on approaches and actually rolling medium to fast. In great shape. Rated 8/10.

Tees mostly level and lush–rated 7.5/10

Was not in any bunkers but they looked to be raked and in good shape.

Rough generally lush and green and in good shape. Rated 8/10.

I just love this course–especially for the rates they charge. New management is really keeping it up nicely for the start of December. Recommended.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.65 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.65 GREAT

Played here on 7/28/17 with a 3:35 tee time. The twilight rate was $180 and we teed off right on time. I don’t get a chance to play here very often due to the rates but when I do I love it.

The course is just visually beautiful and the layout is tons of fun. We finished in four hours with very little waiting. There are many holes that require carry off the tee but the fairways are wide enough that it is not as intimidating as you might think. If you can get off the tee consistently then you can score well. The course conditions as you might expect were very good although I did fix quite a few ball marks and the greens were slower than usual but still putted well.
Overall, the course was 7 out of 10 but I am not sure paying the rack rate of $330 is for everyone. I get it though, the property is in a multi-billion dollar area with views everywhere and the homes in the several million so it fits the needs of this affluent community. However my pocketbook just can’t handle this sort of luxury too often.
Treat yourself to a twilight round if you get a chance! Other than price, this place rates high on my favorites list. After our round we went to the bar for drinks and food. We found the food just average though which was surprising considering the clientele. The SCGA has outings here for $160 which I think is a pretty good deal and you are guaranteed to finish.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.50 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.50 GREAT

Played in a charity event on Monday morning 4/17, shotgun start scramble format. This is a top notch facility in customer service and the location of the course. Driving range was mats only and the putting green was on the small side with a putting contest going on, there are putting greens on the first tee but were under maintenance. Played the South from the blue markers and the course played tough.

Tee boxes were a little on the long side, Fairways were still dormant but had good coverage, rough is up a little and need to keep an eye on your ball because it settles down out of sight. Greens were very receptive and rolled true. Lots of subtle breaks and elevation changes on the green complexes. Club selection is tricky due to the change in wind direction and uphill and downhill shots.
Course would be a tough walk. Bring your camera because each hole has great views. Pace of Play (POP) was 5 1/2 hours due to the tournament.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.43 GREAT

Played this morning at 6:50 with three other friends. Goose is one of my favorite courses but was wondering how it would play after the last two days of rain. All considering, the course drains out pretty well.

There was some water in the bunkers, but moved my ball a club length.  In the two bunkers I was in shots had a little too much bounce with my wedge on the wet sand. I bogeyed both holes. Not their fault, mine. They let us us drive the carts on the fairways so, apparently they didn’t think it was that wet. Greens were great considering winter conditions right now.
We played in under four hours. The course is a ways from my stomping grounds, but always a joy to play.
