Friday, 1.26, got out around 10:15 this morning for my free birthday round, paired up with a threesome of young Coast Guards and my dog, all of which were good company. We got around in about 4.25 hrs.

Golf Playing Conditions 8.33 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 8.33 GREAT

I don’t get out to RR very often, but the Lakes course is on my list of favorite all around courses. Value, conditions, layout, facilities, accessibility, dog friendly and as good a birthday deal as you will find.

I wasn’t disappointed today and the all-around conditions were very good.

Tees boxes were level, clean and well covered. The winter fairways were like hitting off a soft indoor/outdoor carpet — somewhat tight but with a cushiony base to it that made for a nice hitting surface that had a good deal of roll-out. Winter coloring not withstanding, I don’t recall any bare or thin patches as in hard-pan type thin. The rough was generally consistent on the playable side. I was in some bunkers and they were clean and groomed with a nice medium density sand. Relatively tight around the greens, you frequently had the option to chip or putt from beyond the apron. The greens themselves were rated 11.5 and that’s about how they felt —challenging and quick, clean, demanding your attention but not unfair.

Beautiful weather, temperature was perfect with a 1.5 to 2 club breeze at times. I can’t think of a negative in the conditions and I’d play it again at the drop of a hat.

Playing Conditions 6.84 GOOD
Playing Conditions 6.84 GOOD

Played today, teeing off at 11:18 with a GK Coupon, $28 walking by myself. It was mostly uncrowded today and after playing through a couple of groups on holes 2 and 14, I was able to finish in 3 hours and 10 minutes. I joined another walking single on holes 7 through 13, when he had to leave. Hole 13 is basically the old turn at the clubhouse and I think he had to pick up his kid. One of the marshals gave me a lift to 14 tee and that group there let me pass. After that it was wide open.

Tees: Level and lush. A few par threes and short par fours had some divot damage, but there was ample sand bottles if only folks would use them.

Fairways and rough: Not too much difference between either. Good lies and plenty of turf to hit from most everywhere except in a couple of areas of rough between holes 10 and 11 where you could find some scruffy lies. It seems like it’s always like that on this part of the course. Might be an irrigation issue because it seems like it’s up on the ridge and the ground appears dryer than other areas of the course. It’s not bad by any means and is comparable to many courses in So Cal. Everywhere else there is a lot of good turf.

Greens: You could see micro-punched holes on the greens, but it did not affect roll. Good speed; starter had a board stating they were 10′-8″. Not many ball marks were seen although the greens were soft enough for me to create deep craters with high approaches. I think the greens are great on this course and even though they were kind of medium fast, they held most shots with any spin.

Sand: I saw lots of good sand, at least in the one bunker I found on hole 17, about 10 yards in front of the green.

Overall, I like this course. I felt there were good playing conditions from tee to green. After the round I ran into t8fish, fellow GKer, and his dog. We all went to the snack shack for a bite and some good conversation; well, Kevin and I conversed while the dog was just being cool.

I have to recommend this course, especially with the GK Coupon. Thanks to Johnny and Otto to help out a fellow American!

Golf Playing Conditions 6.79 GOOD

Played today, Saturday. Course is in good overall condition. Walked on as a single, Chris in the pro shop was very helpful. Pace of Play (POP) was pretty foul at 5 hrs. 3 groups on 6 tee-box was awful. Oh well, what do you expect for a municipal on a beautiful Saturday. Other than the wait on 6 and 10, it wasn’t too bad. We literally waited on 6 for 30mins, waited on 10 for 15mins and waited on 17 for 15mins. So other than that, it was smooth.

Teeboxes were just fine. Some divot damage, but always level and able to find a good place to tee it up. Fairways were in pretty good shape. The landing areas were in better shape than the short/long/inbetween areas. I never had any problem in the fairway. Rough was pretty brutal, long and lush. stay out of the rough. I was in one bunker and it was just fine. Greens were great, held shots well and putted very true and quick.

Go ahead and get on out there. I think this track is awesome. Great layout and pretty darn challenging. so many killer holes, 10, 14,16 are just killer

Golf Playing Conditions 5.81 GOOD

Played a couple of times this past week. Overall course is ok and certainly good enough for my golf itch. Teed off in the morning both times and there was quite a bit of frost on the course. After it melted it seemed a little damp but I’m sure towards the afternoon you couldn’t tell.

Greens were ok. Faster in the beginning of the round. I couldn’t figure that out maybe the frost made the greens slick and the water after it melted slowed it down? Still a lot of ball marks out there.

Fairways were good. A lot of divots out there that need to be filled but it was good to hit from. A few bad areas in a couple of fairways.

Rough is not bad. A few areas the ball can settle down in but generally the rough won’t alter your shot selection.

Bunkers were nice. Probably the most sand I’ve seen in them and nice to hit from. They just need to be raked from the previous day.

Conditions will not wow you but the course has it challenging holes and pretty affordable that I’ll continue to keep it in my rotation.

Played 1-22-18 for my second round joining a twosome and finishing in a little under 4 hours.

Tee boxes were a little thin and un-level with the three pars having heavy divot damage. Fairways were in descent shape with some thin and dried out areas but for the most part had good lies with descent roll out. Rough was a little patchy in areas with some bare spots it wasn’t to long maybe an inch or two longer than fairways. Was in two bunkers on the back side both of which were very thin and firm. Greens were rolling on the slow side and a little bumpy.

Champions seems to be in a little better shape than Legends right now.

Golf Playing Conditions 5.56 GOOD

1/22 using Groupon $74 for a two-some with range balls voucher on a cold(no frost delay) 740 start that became quite pleasant by 830. Fairways are generally thin giving tight lies but acceptable overall–firm for roll but soft enough to take divots. Rough is sparse along fairways with some bare patches toward the extreme edges. Rough is a little more evident around the greens.

Tees level and ok. Green side bunker on 4 was full of deep rather heavy brown sand which felt quite playable. Bunker in front of 12 looked good but only had a thin layer of sand over hard pack.
Greens played much better than they looked–many appeared rather splotchy but rolled medium to medium fast especially as the day warmed and quite smoothly overall. Held approach and chip shots quite consistently. Some pin placements were really challenging most notably #7(par 3 with the center green bunker)–blue flag set dead center behind said bunker.

The layout is outstanding good variety of holes in a tranquil country setting. Truthfully the conditions are not as good as some times in the past but it is winter and it is evident the the course is being well maintained and attended to.

Check in was a breeze with a cheerful welcome and several friendly encounters with other staff members trough out the day.

the rating of 6 came out really low–is more like 6.8-7 in reality

Golf Playing Conditions 8.06 GREAT

Joined rgm2525, kevbig and mpisarski01 for GK Guru round at Coyote Springs Golf Club on 1/18, impressive. I’ll go as far as saying it was one of the best, and most difficult layouts I’ve ever played. Its a Jack Nicklaus design. I understand it is normally pristine June – November and we did not catch the course at its best, but even at that, it was still in great shape.

This course is in the middle of nowhere. It’s a 60 minute drive out of Las Vegas in the high desert and the only breath of humanity is actually the golf course once you arrive. But once there you get a secluded away from it all feeling and what a course to be treated with. I like it so much I’m looking into a GK Plays there for June. Got to treat GK’ers to this course and I need to play it at its best.

We played the blue tees, 72.8/144, bunkers everywhere and none easy to escape from. Very difficult undulating greens, rolling fairways loaded with small mounds to the point you hardly ever get a downhill lie, amazing sight lines and not a single let down hole.

The Condtions

As far as conditions, they do not overseed yet the fairways and greens were in great shape. The rough was dormant and thin in spots. The bunkers were in decent shape but thin in most. The tee boxes green and in very good shape. Green were rolling mostly smooth, moderately fast and firm.

As far the facilities, one of the best driving ranges/practice areas I’ve ever seen. Huge beautiful grass range with multiple short game areas. In addition nice large practicing putting green by the starter that simulates the golf course very well. The clubhouse are deluxe trailers with a food/beverage. It is my understanding they will finally breaking ground on the new clubhouse later this year.

I use to always hear when coming to Vegas I need to play Coyote Springs given how much I like all the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort golf courses. Now that I have I will say Coyote Springs Golf Club is better than every one of them hands down…and I like those Paiute courses a ton.

Highly Recommend Coyote Springs Golf Club. Worth the drive!

Playing Conditions 9.16 IMMACULATE
Playing Conditions 9.16 IMMACULATE

I started my New Year’s Day here. I had a 8 A.M. tee time, but had a frost delay for about 30 min., after the delay was lifted, we where given the opportunity to go to the range and practice area. They have one of the best short game and practice area, that I’ve used.

Now to the game. The tee boxes have been one of the best I have played on in a long time. They are large firm and flat, with minimal, to not damage. The fairways are large and spacious, not too many trees to hit into. But there are so gorgeous and majestic views from some of the back 9 tee locations, so there are forced carry to reach the fairways. It is a must to play the proper tee locations, I played white, which was good for me. The fairways are firm flat and have some lushness to it. The rough was cut down, so it was easy to play through those lies.
The bunkers are placed on many of the holes, which adds to the beauty of this course. The sand was a bit firm, not fluffy, but playable. The greens rolled really fast, I mean really fast, but true. the greens also have some angulation, you need to read before striking your putt. If you are above the hole, be careful, because a miss 1st put may give you and additional 2 or 3 putts to finish. I saw more putts, barely tapped, run 8-10 feet passed, because of the angulation. A couple of hole had pin placements right on the edge of the slope.
Overall the course is in super condition, it has great views and character throughout the layout of the track. It should be a must play for your Bucket List for 2018.
