Golf Course Review 8.44 GREAT

Played 5/24 at 8:15 with some friends and had a blast like usual. Course is in great shape right now and from tee to green is lush. I dont have a lot to add from my last review a few weeks ago but the greens have healed 100% and are d%mn near perfect right now. Smooth, quick, and not a divot to be found. Fairways had full coverage but on hole 16 they are losing the new sod and will need to work hard to keep it alive.

Speaking of hole 16 they still haven’t changed the tee boxes for the hole and the scorecard and GPS says its a Par 5. on the card it says 490 yards from the whites but it played 400 on this day and I cant see where they are going to put the tips at 550+ yards I am not sure why they are doing this change but hole 13 is now a 350 yard par 4 but was a 500+ yard very challenging par 5. Only time will tell what their plans are but for now enjoy a 400 yard par 5.

The last thing to note was how nasty the rough is right now. It was probably 3-4 inches and very tough to get out of. Very fun challenge and caused issues on multiple occasions. In all the course is still in great shape and I recommend it highly if you can find a deal.

Walked the Blues (6443/71.3/128) early morning in 4H, 15M on their $44 Sr. rate. Paired with Greg, we played in sunny, breezy conditions in the mid 60’s.

COVID-19: 1 rider to a cart. Doodles in the bottom of the cups. No on course services. Tee times on line or on the phone.

Peter Jacobson design with lots of elevation changes, rolling hills, tight, tree lined fairways and large, sometimes severe greens. Mostly poa annua grass throughout the course.

Tees had good coverage and were good to play from.

Rough close to the fairways was mowed down and nicely maintained, usually good to play from. Rough farther from the fairways was 1-2′ tall, forget it, lost ball.

Fairways have lots of undulation and were good to play from with a nice cushion.

Sand was decently maintained. More fine dirt than sand, but okay to play from.

Large greens were firm and quick, especially downhill. I like the greens here, the ball rolled very well.

Customer service was good from all encountered. Busy driving range and they have a putting and chipping practice area. Carts are basic, no GPS. Nice layout, fun course to play in very good condition. Recommended.

reens a little slower than the last time I played here, (slow 10) and a little more beat up. Had to fix quite a few ball marks. Most disconcerting, is the congregation of geese proliferating, multiplying… more goslings and families. I hate the geese. With geese, come goose droppings. It’s not too bad yet, but I’m worried. This will stop me from playing here.

Other than that, course in decent shape… but with the geese, the weather getting hotter, and the public not taking care of the greens, I’m wary of the next 6 weeks.

Played Harding on Saturday with two friends and rode from the blue tees with a 10:36 tee time. Groups were spread out nicely and we finished in just over four hours so that was ideal.

No range time as they said it was closed but I saw people out there later so no idea what happened there. No point in getting to the course early as the putting area is also closed and they will call your name ten minutes before you tee off and that’s when you pay inside.

Course is in very nice shape right now and was really fun to play on a gorgeous day. Really nice and green fairways with occasional thin areas but few and far between. Rough is very playable and provides a good cushion. Tee boxes are just okay but the greens are in very nice shape, rolling medium fast and holding shots well. Not a ton of ball marks out there either and good coverage – nice work by the grounds crew.

Was only in one bunker on hole 16 and the sand was a bit thin but playable. Overall though, the course is in very solid shape and will probably get a lot of action in the coming weeks.

Snack shop at the turn was closed but there was a mobile stand there for drinks and snacks -that was a nice touch. I always enjoy the layout at Harding and think 18 is a fantastic closing hole to finish off a really nice day.

Walked the blacks yesterday in just about 4 hours on a picture perfect day.

Staff was incredible as always, and as previously noted is out bringing ice cold water out to golfers on the course which is just A+.

Not much to add to the previous detailed reviews, the course is in EPIC shape. Some over watered fairways as mentioned and the greens were a bit slow for my liking but everything was deep green and smooth.

Cannot wait to return.

I played here again today. What a difference; sadly, the course is back to its somewhat good-to-mediocre standard. Too bad, it was really nice that last time here in mid March. The starter said they are about 50% staff, so no way will they be able to keep on double cutting greens or keep such a high level of maintenance. Folks showed up with masks, but nobody was required to wear one as everyone was basically more than 6 feet apart.

That said, it was all walking due to C19. This is definitely a course to walk, although the back nine has a little climbing from Hole 12 tee to 17 tee. Thankfully, they were doing a back nine start; my guess, most likely for that reason alone. Get the bigger climbs done before heading to the relatively flatter front nine.

The Review

Greens were decent. A little slow in the morning, but not really getting much quicker as the day progressed. They were definitely slower than usual. Maybe, if I had to guess, around an 8 or 9.

Fairways and rough were as green as can be. The fairways had great coverage and had a thick mat of turf in almost all areas of the course. The rough was somewhat penal. It was deep enough to lose site of your ball in some areas until you were upon it.

Bunkers were okay, considering there are no rakes. I did see a guy driving the sand pro around and some bunkers were nicely groomed. I hit into the bunker On Hole 13; it was groomed but was wet and hard.

We played the white tees; mostly they were directly in front of the blues on the same tee box. They were level for the most part and the ones that were not level were not overly so.

the Bottom-line

Overall, I think we paid a little too much. It was $50 to walk at 7:10 a.m. Unfortunately, the only times I could find the day before was on TeeOff.com. The course had nothing available and the phone system put me on hold for 15 minutes when I called the them on Thursday. On a more positive note, the beverage cart came around a few times and the nice, young lady was friendly and seemed to enjoy being out there. I might come back, but there are other options around now.

Driving range is open but the practice putting green is closed until further notice. Must wear Mask while using the driving range or being around the Pro shop area (pro shop was also off limits).

Course is in very good shape except for the rough being a total nightmare. It was absolutely terrible, probably hasn’t be cut for at least 6 to 8 weeks it was just to thick. If your ball went into the thick rough it was almost impossible to find but the good news is that the Course was starting to cut the rough as we were playing so by next week it should be fine.

Fairways were mowed very good and the greens were very nice to putt on.

Bunkers were very hard and tough to get out of so we played the bunkers as “Waste Areas”.

Pace of play was a little slow. I guess with players losing their ball in the rough and trying to find it, it actually slowed down play a bit.

Everyone had their own cart which was fine. I give this course condition a good 7 out of 10 being great except for the rough I give the rough a Zero. There you are “know before you go”

Played on Sunday 4/26/20. It was beautiful day and temp in 70’s. Usual ocean breeze was blowing in from the west.

Course was in great shape and was busy but flowing well. They only allow walking but Buenaventura is fairly flat so wasn’t a problem. Yet it did wear my senior body out that doesn’t play that often.

There was no cart person we saw. There are no flags in holes but they sequence the flag position front-middle-back repeating so you just have to keep track of that. If I was very good at getting approach shots close to a flag like pros it would have bothered me more not having the flags in. They have cups upside down so ball doesn’t go deep in cup.

You have to pay with credit card and can also book round online.

Everyone in our group enjoyed the course overall.
