BREAKING: GreensKeeper.org Announces WORTH THE GREEN FEE Awards 2021

Worth the Green Fee Honors for 2021 from GreensKeeper.org

Worth the Green Fee Winners for 2021 from GreensKeeper.orgBest Playing Conditions Winners for 2021 wouldn’t be complete without the Worth the Green Fee honors as well.  So GreensKeeper.org presents its Worth the Green Fee Honors for 2021.

Worth the Green Fee” is award to the golf courses open to the public listed on GreensKeeper.org that stand out above the rest with our site users at providing a consistent, quality golf experience at an outstanding price.

Let’s face it, golf can be VERY expensive, especially post Covid-19.  Thankfully for us, it doesn’t have to be.  All you have to know is where to play to get your best value and that’s something GreensKeeper.org excels.  In addition to helping golfers decide where to play their next round of golf based on reviews, ratings, and maintenance alerts, we’ve recently revamped our GK Coupons, GK Plays and GK Guru Visits.  Stay tuned for more chances to play some spectacular golf with our GK Golf Club or our USGA sanctioned SCGA GK Golf Club.

How Award Winners Are Determined

Golf Course Reviews and ratings submitted by our 76,000+ GreensKeeper.org community are tabulated over 12 months.  Winners are determined for each area.

This year we divide awards into 11 Regions —  San Diego County, Orange County, Los Angeles County, Inland Empire, Santa Barbara County, Palm Springs Region, and Ventura County with Regional Winners for Southern Nevada, Southern California, Central California, and Northern California.

We provide the list below in no particular order.  This is done on purpose.  Any golf course that provides outstanding conditions in their region should not overshadow other golf courses simply because of their location.  For most avid golfers, the playing experience is what matters.  Knowing where to play in your area is important.

CALIFORNIA AERATION ALERTS March – April 2021

It’s that time yet again.

Even in this era of Covid-19, golf courses still have to maintain their facilities.  It’s a necessary evil.  Please note, it’s not personal.  A golf course will not want to knowingly make your outing a nightmare.  You can alleviate some of this frustration by navigating the multitude of local golf courses that will be working on their greens using GreensKeeper.org.

At present, it’s maintenance season (i.e. aeration) in California.  Avoid the hassle, play golf courses that are either aerating at a later date or have just emerged from their maintenance.  Check out these great links, and Know Before You Go with GreensKeeper.org.

Playing Conditions 6.03 GOOD
Playing Conditions 6.03 GOOD

Finally cashed in that Golf Moose voucher ($140 for two at noon) on Sat at Strawberry Farms, one of my favorite Orange County courses. Just a gorgeous day for golf, went out with 3 buds and got around in a bit over 4 hrs, no waiting (let a couple two-somes play thru).

Bermuda filling in, getting green, and in good condition although some of the landing areas had many unfilled divots with some thin areas to navigate. Rough not difficult, very playable and mostly full. Greens were holding shots and very few unrepaired ball marks which was nice to see.  Greens rolling true at medium speed. Bunkers had ample sand, a few foot prints from careless clientele.

Best part was the scenery, especially the back nine with the reservoir full to the brim. Wildlife abound, just nice to take it all in. Real nice track back there with no homes. Would play here more often but the rack rate is over the top … they do offer a decent senior rate everyday but Sat. Weekday twilight is right around the bend.

ecommended, if you get a deal.

Aeration Alerts By Greenskeeper.Org

Know Before You Go™ with Greenskeeper.Org – 2019 Season

It’s that time again folks — Maintenance Time.

We realize that it’s perhaps one of the most dreaded times for golfers who love golf. But remember this. A golf course does not willingly want to present you a course with aerated greens. It’s simply a part of their responsibility as stewards of the game to provide you a consistent product. That means a good golf course operator must aerate their greens. Not to annoy you, but rather to provide you a consistent product .

Aeration why it's important
Aeration allows air and water to reach the roots, relieve soil compaction and promote healthy root growth.

So the next time you sit there beside yourself; bemoaning you didn’t know your favorite course you’re currently playing just recently aerated their greens. Remember Greenskeeper.Org is here to spare you this misery. Visit Greenskeeper.org and you too will Know Before YOU Go™!

Played 3/17/19 early out. Cool start with dew to a sunny warm finish in spring conditions. Previous review mentioned a few dry spots, which is accurate now.

The Review

Golf Playing Conditions 5.43 GOOD
Golf Playing Conditions 5.43 GOOD

But far more wet spots and the ground too wet to mow properly with the soil saturated. This made the rough thick in spots that were mown with left over grass clippings 4″+. You could find your ball after a search. Other areas up to and higher than 7″+.  Rough around the greens was exceptionally thick.  Good luck trying to hack out of there.

These conditions are what maintenance has to deal with considering the rainfall this year. Not something they can do much about until sunny weather. Then when it come the grass explodes in growth with ground very wet underneath, too wet to cut without leaving a bigger mess sometimes.

That said the greens freshly cut and serviced and rolling true. The best part of the course. Fairways good with a few wet Ground Under Repair (GUR) areas. The bunkers not so good. mostly red dirt and mud with a few loose impediments. I found a quarter racking my way out of the front one on short par 3 16th. Nasty and borderline unplayable compared to the day before at Silverado in Napa a PGA level course.

I like the layout, facility and the service and will make the annual trip here for that. An hour drive that warrants a comeback play in the summer when things dry out.

Recommend if your not fussy about the bunkers.
