Worth the Green Fee” is award to the golf courses open to the public listed on GreensKeeper.org that stand out above the rest with our site users at providing a consistent, quality golf experience at an outstanding price.

Let’s face it, golf can be VERY expensive, especially post Covid-19.  Thankfully for us, it doesn’t have to be.  All you have to know is where to play to get your best value and that’s something GreensKeeper.org excels.  In addition to helping golfers decide where to play their next round of golf based on reviews, ratings, and maintenance alerts, we’ve recently revamped our GK Coupons, GK Plays and GK Guru Visits.  Stay tuned for more chances to play some spectacular golf with our GK Golf Club or our USGA sanctioned SCGA GK Golf Club.

How Award Winners Are Determined

Golf Course Reviews and ratings submitted by our 76,000+ GreensKeeper.org community are tabulated over 12 months.  Winners are determined for each area.

This year we divide awards into 11 Regions —  San Diego County, Orange County, Los Angeles County, Inland Empire, Santa Barbara County, Palm Springs Region, and Ventura County with Regional Winners for Southern Nevada, Southern California, Central California, and Northern California.

We provide the list below in no particular order.  This is done on purpose.  Any golf course that provides outstanding conditions in their region should not overshadow other golf courses simply because of their location.  For most avid golfers, the playing experience is what matters.  Knowing where to play in your area is important.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.00 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.00 GREAT

Played 11-15-19 first out as a single for $34(players club rate) walking, finishing in 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Tee boxes were in good shape, nice coverage on most of them with some divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in very nice condition, mostly lush with decent roll out and some small bare spots but I never had a bad lie.

Rough was about 2 inches long along the fairways and a little bit longer around the greens, very lush and mostly in good condition with some bare spots the farther you get from the fairway. Was in one green-side bunker right of 4 that had a very thin layer of sand over hard-pan.

Greens were in great shape, semi-soft, rolling medium/fast and smooth, just real nice to putt on.

Overall conditions are real good right now. Great course in a wonderful setting that is always great to play.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.23 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.23 GREAT

Played La Purisima 9/11/18 second off on a foggy morning. The first four holes were virtually blind due to the fog, which really adds to the abundant challenge!

Course was in excellent condition overall. Greens rolled well, though not especially fast. Fairways were well covered, rough was lush and relatively thick, but not especially long. Tees were generally well covered but several lacked areas where they were very level.

As the second group off, POP was not an issue and the fog eventually lifted and gave way to a beautiful day. This is a gorgeous course but a difficult one.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.41 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.41 GREAT

One of my very favorite golf courses ! In part, dealing with Stacey in the pro shop is a total pleasure, she represents the type of person I would want to work for me if I ran a golf course.

First off a little prior to 7am. Unlike yesterdays 90+ degree temperatures, it was 57 degress when we teed off. How perfect ! Pace of play was fantastic, we rode in just under two hours twenty minutes, without rushing.

A few of the greens (#2 & #3 ) had a few issues, but otherwise the greens were fine. A few areas in the fairways as well, but nothing too critical. The only complaint I had is they removed the fairway bunkers on the left side of the 15th fairway, which makes the hole play a whole lot easier off the tee. I suspect it was done to speed up play?

Always enjoy myself at this course, even when I do not play well, but fortunately I did play well this morning, which made it all the better.

Golf Playing Conditions 7.95 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.95 GREAT

Rode the Blues this morning 6/29/2018 with my buddy RGM2525. Thanks to Ron I played with a Golfmoose coupon which came out to $22.00 a person. Weather was high 50’s tee off warming to low 60’s with just a slight breeze–it was great golf weather. Ron and I saw multiple groups in front of us so we slowed down our pace to not catch them and finished in 3 hrs 50 minutes. Great staff in pro-shop, two putting greens and a nice big range to warm up on.

The Review

The greens were in great shape. Softer and slower than I am used to here but rolling great. No ballmarks. Only #2 green had a minor fungus on it. Rating the greens a 8/10.

The fairways were semi-lush to lush. Green and healthy looking–very few problem areas. Rating 8/10

The tees were lush, mainly level and even the par 3’s looked good with minimal divot damage. Rating 7.5/10

The rough was healthy, lush and a club grabber. It seems like it was not as thick and penal and high as it can be but is still always a factor here. Rated 8/10

Was in one greenside bunker on #9 that was raked and maybe could have used a little more sand. Still easy to get out of. Rated 7/10

Final Thoughts

I love the layout here-could play it 2 times a week. Super challenging, beautiful scenery(we saw multiple deer’s today). Very Recommended.

About Greenskeeper.Org

Golf Course Reviews, Specials, Maintenance and Aeration Alerts.

Greenskeeper.org is that and so much more.

For the last 12 years Greenskeeper.org has been the inside source for Golf Course Conditions and maintenance alerts for the “avid” and “core” Golfer.

The “avid” Golfer as defined by the National Golf Course Operators Association (NGCOA) play a minimum of 25 regulation rounds or more in a year.  The “core” golfer play 8-24 regulation rounds per year.

From a report provided by the National Golf Foundation (NGF), “avid” Golfers account for 76% of the rounds played yearly per golf course.  They represent only 26% of the playing population of golfers, and most importantly account for 71% of revenue generated for the golf course operator.  “Core” Golfers are 30% of the golfing population, represent 18% of all rounds played yearly and account for 23% of revenue generated by golf course operators. (Refer to NGF:  Pyramid of Influence 2012)

This by no means is a small number.  In fact we represent that demographic of golfer most coveted by golf course operators.

We love golf.  It is a part of our lifestyle.  We are passionate about the sport of golf.  As a result, Greenskeeper.org. (GK) is Golf’s Social Network of over 70,000 members and growing.

Some facts about GK:

  • 70,000+ members of which 73% are “avid” golfers.
  • Over 1800 Golf Courses with Aeration & Maintenance Alerts for California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, New Mexico, Washington, Oregon and Colorado.

  • 20,000+ Course Photos
  • Golf Outings and Community Forums
  • 100,000+ visitors monthly of which 75% visit daily

Golf Playing Conditions 7.73 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 7.73 GREAT

Played 1-6-18 first out as a single playing in a little under 2 1/2 hours. With nobody in front of me, nobody behind me, and no maintenance people around it felt like I had my own private golf course. Course conditions haven’t changed much since last time I played here. Rough my have been cut down a little lower, and greens were a little softer, but everything else was in the same good shape.

One of the best and most challenging courses in CA. The course is in a beautiful area with rolling hills and trees if you hit your shots offline. The course looks benign but it is very tough. While the fairways and greens are in excellent shape, the rough is bumpy, can be very tough and is inconsistent. You are at the mercy of your lies when you miss the fairway. A couple tee boxes could be fixed – mostly uneven, but this is minor to me, overall they are OK. The wind almost always picks up in the afternoon making the course more of a challenge. The sand traps sometimes are firm and there are a lot of high lips so it depends where you are in the trap as to difficulty.
The 15th hole can be played safely by hitting it straight, but the hole would play better if they cleaned up (it is bare, bumpy, dusty and with a lot of burrowing animal holes) the area left of the bunkers on left side of fairway and allow a good shot in that direction.
Other than that the course is a gem. Usually only crowded (and still mildly) on the weekends. Great people work there and it is a hidden gem.
