There are certain things in golf that are a given: Jordan Spieth will make a long putt, Augusta National will be in perfect condition for the Masters, and Titleist ProV1 will be the top played ball on tour.
So it is with Goose Creek, always a joy to play, always in great shape, wonderful staff, reasonably priced and managed the way all courses should be.
As expected the course was in great shape despite all the recent rains. Green and fairways being the best part. A few of the tee boxes had some issues, but nothing to severe. Bunkers appeared good, but I was lucky to have avoided them. Course seemed to handle the rains very well It’s just hard not to have a good time playing the Goose.

I played here on 1/16/17.
The course was in great shape as always. I feel that this course is great for all handicaps.
The pace of play was right @ 4 hours and we had a tee time @ 1130. The greens and fairways were excellent. I would say the only thing that was just OK were the tee boxes. Overall though the course is one of the best in the area and I always enjoy playing it for the conditions, scenery, the price and the service. I would say it’s the best course in the inland empire by far. I recommend it to all players.

Why Did We Expand the Regions?

It’s simple.  Greenskeeper.org has been growing.  We expanded the number of regions because golfers like you have reported about golf course conditions of the golf courses you play.  In short golfers come to us if they want informative, relevant golf course reviews and it’s all due to your, our GK Community’s, diligence.  You let us know your experiences and well if we hear about it everyone else does too.

Why so Many Regions?

Golf is an experience and every experience is unique.  Different golf courses offer different experiences.  What we look for in golf course reviews offers a little insight into every golf course we play.  Not just one point of view but many, and by providing many different points of view you get a clearer picture of what each golf course has to offer.  To that end we felt it necessary to provide regions with their own highlighted golf course.  Local players can enjoy the fact there is a great facility they can play just around their corner.  Golfers looking to experience new golf courses can play these and experience first-hand these unique golf experiences.  Put simply, we allow not just your high-end. daily fee courses to shine but the local municipal as well.  They all deserve a fair shot and they all deserve to shine.

Played 1-14-17 first out as a single walking in a little under three hours.
Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly lush and level with a few being a little thin and unlevel mostly on three pars. Fairways were in nice shape very lush with a few small bare areas. Rough was not as long as normal but still thick and tough to hit from. Didn’t go into any bunkers but most of them looked to be okay with some still holding some water from the rains.
Greens were in great shape, the best that I have seen them in a while rolling smooth with medium/fast speed. The course held up very well from all the rain. Definitely worth going out and playing.

Rode the Black tees today 10/3/2016 playing 36 holes with RGM2525 finishing both rounds in about 6 hours. Used the all you can play GK coupon which includes cart and range balls for $47.00–a spectacular deal for one of the toughest courses and beautiful layouts in California.
Morning round was in the low 60’s with a light breeze– we were greeted with a 20-25 mph swirling wind during our afternoon round. The staff here are very friendly. They have a cool elevated range, big chipping green and nice huge putting green that mirror’s the speed of the greens on the course. The greens were super pure putting wise and in very good shape. Little to no ballmarks, holding irons very nicely. I have seen them faster but overall I am rating the greens an 8/10.
The fairways were mostly lush, green with a couple dried out brownish spots here and there that do not effect play. If you are in the fairway you have a nice lie. The tees were mostly lush and mostly level–only a couple of boxes were crowned. Seemed like they have redone the black tee box on #3.
Overall rating for the tees were a 7.5/10. Was in 3 green-side bunkers over 36 holes and I loved the bunkers–very rarely am I 3/3 out of sand saves. Sand is thicker, raked and in good shape. Rated 8/10 Rough was thick 2-3 inches and lush in most places lining the fairways and greens. I will say beware of being under trees in the rough or just in the rough at all. There are places were your ball might sink down in a hole in the rough–tough to hit a 295 yd drive down the middle of the fairway–hit a slope in the fairway–roll in the rough and then ride up to find your ball in a hole barely being able to advance it–lol–that’s what makes this course very tough. Rough rating 8/10.
Today we maybe saw 2-4 total groups on the golf course–it was like playing our own private golf course. I would HIGHLY recommend this golf course.

As I had not played here for some time, thought based upon the most recent review I would give it another shot. Good decision! The course is in very nice condition, greens rolled true and just fast enough to present a challenge, but not too fast. Fairways have plenty of grass and the two bunkers I was in were both well manicured and had sufficient sand in them,.

Staff is always very good to deal and accommodating. Senior rate makes this course more affordable. Always a challenge and rarely leave here disappointed. Recommend this course to anyone looking for a fun but not too easy a round of golf.

Yep, another positive review for Black Gold.
I guess by now the only complaint I’d make about the place is that if you aren’t grooving on your swing, you may lose a lot of balls. It may get tiring for some, to have a good round spoiled because you lost your ball on a narrow fairway. Plus the layout may get tiresome as its always seems to be a narrow valley to hit through. There’s no trees to get in the way either. Great views though, you can see Catalina from several tee boxes. The course is real well kept. Very little GUR areas, or places where you wouldn’t want to hit your ball from.
I think it plays harder than the scorecard says, as this is the kinda of place where you can hit a nice shot, but only to realize you landed your ball 5 ft too far on the green and it rolls down into a gully or sand trap. If you play here with an experienced player, make sure they give you at least 4 extra strokes as experience here can be the difference between an 81 or a 91.
I think this place is the bear minimum to play in the LA area. I don’t venture too far east from here so I can’t comment about a couple Riverside courses I’ve heard about, but in my opinion, there’s only 5 courses worth playing: Black Gold, Industry Hills Ike and Babe, Oak Creek, and if you’re in the mood for slumming it, Skylinks. PM me if you want to send me somewhere else, but from I’ve observed, these are the only ones worth playing.

Stopped by Thursday to have my clubs re-gripped.
At the time the course allowed walking only but decided to go out Friday.   The course drained well.  I could not even hear water as you drove on the rough or along the fairway.  There were areas roped off for water but personally, I never had to take a casual water drop. Greens were smooth.  They were as you would expect speed-wise, fast downhill and slow uphill.
Weather was a nice bonus and the sky was clear. It was just a nice day for golf.

Played today with Itslikeimsayin- thank you Mark, for sharing that great deal. Wow, it was windy today! It was quite a challenge locating the balls among all the leaves and debris in the fairways. Mark summed up the conditions well, so I’ll just add a couple of comments. I was happy to see that all the vegetation has been cleared out of the ditch on #6. Just being dirt and some mud, it was much easier to get out of. #5 still has a temporary green and there was a crew doing quite a bit of work on #9. I was in the rough many times, but the ball sat up well and some of my best shots were from that nice cushion. This is a fun course and pretty long from the forward tees with a par 73. Despite the wind, I did well and look forward to playing there again.

Played today, using the over 55 discount ($65, including cart). The course is in decent condition, with only one very saturated area just left of 17 green. As far as all the recent rains go, the course must drain rather well. The fairways and rough were mostly dormant Bermuda grass, cut low most everywhere. Great rollout on poorly hit tee shots, but tight lies as you approach most greens. Tees were mostly lush and level. Greens rolled fast and true with very subtle breaks. There was plenty of soft, white sand in the few bunkers I was in today. POP was about 4.5 hours, okay for a holiday of sorts (to paraphrase the previous reviewer). Go out and play, Monday and Tuesday are reduced rates for 55 years or older and nearby residents.

Played my free birthday round at Angeles National with a friend and two of his buddies, and really enjoyed the course immensely. It was my first time to ANGC and I simply loved the layout and the variety of long and short holes, along with the tremendous mountain scenery and really good conditions. The fairways are currently in that dormant yellow stage, but they play very nicely no matter the color. The rough is a deep, verdant green though, which makes the contrast very stunning indeed. The greens are super tough though – fast and so many tricky slopes and undulations – couldn’t catch up all day, but nothing but good things to say about their condition overall. I found the bunkers to be in fine shape – nice, fluffy sand greenside, and thinner traps to hit out of cleanly from the fairways. And the tee boxes were all in excellent shape. Loved the variety of tee boxes as well to choose from (we played the blue tees). There’s not a lot of elevation at ANGC to worry about, but there are plenty of difficult shots and carries that will eat your ball supply if wayward. The native areas are in play on pretty much every hole so you must be very clean and precise. The course is definitely fair though. Fair, but very tough. The very fast greens also make approach shots something of an adventure every single time. And some of your second shot carries will make those palms sweat! Free is a pretty great price to pay for this place – thanks for the hospitality. But I will definitely be rewarding ANGC with my actual hard-earned money in the near future – it’s very much worth it and I want a chance to redeem myself on those greens and shoot a better score. POP was great although I did feel bad for the threesome behind us as my crew, despite my hints to speed things up, were very deliberate on every shot and simply took too long to get moving. I’ll do better next time to be more vocal, but we were approached by a marshall starting the back 9 (actually the front 9 for us as we started on 10) and did pick up the pace thankfully. Not much more to add than that, but I really wonder what took me so long to get out here other than fear of a really high price and a course that would simply beat me up. Now that I know I can handle this track, the price worries me less. It’s worth it. Really nice place.

Tee boxes are in descent shape, a little thin, some un-level, and shorter par fours and three pars with some divot damage. Fairways were in okay shape, semi-lush with some thin areas and some bare spots. Rough is mostly cut pretty low with some thicker areas and some bare spots. Didn’t go in any bunkers but they looked okay. Greens were in nice shape, medium/fast, rolling pretty true with an occasional bump, and holding shots real nice. Good course for a quick morning round.

My first time playing here yesterday. We had a 7:30 tee time at Rustic Canyon but the winds were so strong that the course was unplayable so we headed to De Bell. When we arrived there was no winds at all…..we got right out and enjoyed our round however this is not my style of course. Many holes are gimmicky and you would have to hit irons off of many tees. We enjoyed ourselves but no-one really felt the course had a wow factor that would bring us back. The tee boxes were mostly level, the greens were nice and had many breaks so were difficult but fun, the sand was okay, and the fairways were very spotty with GUR marked in many locations. You definitely have to hit every type of golf shot here to score well. Chipping, bump and run, lob shots, and tee shot placement are all needed. Great place to practice with a 4 hour pace for our foursome.

Why Did We Expand the Regions?

It’s simple.  Greenskeeper.org has been growing.  We expanded the number of regions because golfers like you have reported about golf course conditions in more places you play.
