Golf Playing Conditions 9.00 IMMACULATE
Golf Playing Conditions 9.00 IMMACULATE

Played on 12/26. This was my first time playing Eagle Falls after years of wanting to get out here. With all the great reviews I have read and the 9.03 rating, the course had a lot to live up to and it did.

Check in was fast and easy. Not much here as far as club house or snack bar or bar, but it’s not why I wanted to come here anyways. They paired us with a very nice couple from Canada and we teed off right on our 11:16 tee time. POP 4 hrs 15 min. We did not use the range, but it looked very nice.

The Review

Tee boxes – In very nice lush shape. All were level and had normal divot damage.

Fairways – Wow, were they ever perfect. No brown could be found. Ball always sat up nice. Fairways undulate, but not to severely. Some of the best I have ever played on.

Rough – Long, thick and sticky (Golf version of a Montrose song). The rough was always on hills and if you though you might get a lucky bounce out of it, forget it, not happening. The rough was dark green everywhere and would grab your club and ball. Framed the fairways nicely.

Bunkers – Was only in one and had nice sand, could use a little bit more, but i am not complaining. Saw one green side bunker with lots of new sand just waiting for a crew to spread it out. The bunkers are deep and

Greens – A little slow for my taste, but in great shape. they were medium speed but downhill putts and chips could get away from you. If you only read your putts from behind the ball, you will have trouble here. You need to look at them from a side angle also or it’s going to be a long 3 putt day.

Final Thoughts

Overall I loved the course and can’t wait to get back out, maybe for a springtime round. If the wind kicks up it is going to be a very tough course. There are some forced carries, like 150 yards over water, but with the breeze we had in our face that day it made the drive a little more nerve racking.

Played here for the first time in a very well run tournament. The facility is top notch from the lot to the course. The staff does an excellent job and seems to enjoy doing it. The tee boxes were all very level with a couple being slightly thin and shaggy. The fairways are nearly perfect with total coverage tee to green. The rough was not too long on most holes – but long enough to keep shots in play and short enough to make good contact. The sand traps were well maintained and filled with plenty of quality sand. The greens were pretty large and in great condition with hardly a mark. The greens were holding shots pretty well and not as slow as other area courses I’ve played this time of year. The grounds crew does a wonderful job with this place. I’m looking forward to my next visit here and definitely recommend a round or two or three here!!

Indian Wells is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Even with the surprise Verti-cut happening today, but fortunately I only had to play on 3 holes that way.

Staff is awesome – got me out 2 hours early as I was ahead of schedule. Went out as single, starter told me there were 3 foursomes ahead and that I should go to #4 or #5 to start. I went to #5 just ahead of the first foursome, and didn’t see another golfer.

Verti-cut is probably done now, so my conditions report is meaningless. Count on immaculate conditions after October maintenance.

Golf Playing Conditions 6.88 GOOD

First time playing Mt. Woodson today. Great day and great conditions. A few of the tee boxes were a bit chewed up but that was the only real blemish I saw. Can’t wait to play it again.

We played slow but that was solely our fault. Played some older guys so getting to their balls and hitting took a while. We were the first group behind a shotgun tourney. Never saw anyone after the second hole. Nobody behind us all day. By the time we finished we saw a group maybe 2 holes behind us that started to catch up. So peaceful.

The starter did tell us we were playing slow at the turn. Not sure if he was joking because we never saw anyone most of the day.

Golf Playing Conditions 8.67 GREAT
Golf Playing Conditions 8.67 GREAT

Teed off yesterday at about 7:30ish and only saw a 2 someone and we let a single out ahead of us and really had no one else around us the entire time. Finished a little less than 4 hours and asked the starter about going back out and we were able to get out in 15 minutes. Caught a few groups on the back so we finished as the sun had set over the mountains so we finished just in the nick of time. We got 36 holes in for $80 which is a ridiculous if you ask me.

Course conditions were very solid all around and very consistent with all the reviews from the GK outing. Greens are fantastic. They rolled really well and held shots well. Even though my putting stats were terrible I thought the speed of the greens were very fair.

Fairways were outstanding. They are about as good as you can get. Generous room in the fairway and divots were filled in. I don’t recall any blemishes in the fairways at all.

Rough had some thickness to it. It couldn’t be taken too lightly. I had a couple sitting down on me and I wasn’t able to catch the ball cleanly.

Traps were consistent and ample sand in them.

Played the back tee boxes and they were all outstanding as well. Didn’t notice much differences on the other tee boxes as well.

Staff is top notch all around. The guys in our group like it so much they are already planning another one. Definitely worth playing right now.

Played here 9/1 with fellow GK member jpeairs85 on a good GolfNow deal with a 1:10pm tee time. I hadn’t been out here since the last GK Plays here and reading the reviews, it was good to see they were still applicable. For a course where you would absolutely understand the summer taking its toll, there were green fairways, smooth greens, and a wonderful experience overall.

The Review

Golf Playing Conditions 6.88 GOOD
Golf Playing Conditions 6.88 GOOD

Tee-boxes: Okay condition, though I distinctly remember a handful of holes where the turf was chewed up. This may be because everyone plays the blues here to maximize the short yardage, however even the worst conditioned boxes still had enough area to tee it up.

Fairways: Great condition. I loved the green color, the condition of the grass resulted in great lies, and the run was more than fair on a course where most people keep the driver in the bag. A fair amount of divots but it was busy and teeing off in the afternoon always results in more divots.

Rough: Where it existed, it was thick. Of course the canyons and natural contour of the course is the real “rough” here, however I saw at least three shots that landed in the thick stuff and absolutely disappeared, so it does exist and it can be penal.

Bunkers: Varied from great to mediocre, just depended on the hole and type of bunker. A few green-side bunkers (namely hole 8) had Augusta-type sand; others (like hole 2) had coarse beach sand. No footprints thankfully, but wish there was more consistency with sand.

Greens: Great condition. They rolled quick and smooth, visually a pleasure to putt on and only a few greens had burned out spots on them that did NOT affect play. Well done Mt. Woodson!

Final Thoughts

ETC: Staff was very friendly and allowed us to tee off early (in spite of 1pm marking the start of twilight rates). Grill offered good and moderately priced food. Pace of play was just a shade over 4 hours, which was excellent. Course layout is insanely fun; don’t let the short yardage fool you. Carts could stand to be upgraded next, but everything here is done well and I will surely be back soon.
